Gangs are one of the most important things in the game of GTA2. You can do jobs for them and get money, you can be respected or hated by them. Find all info about gangs in this chapter. The "respectometer" shows what is the respect to you of each gang, its shown in the upper left corner of the screen.
Cops are even more involved in the game. Well many times you would hate them for interupting a gang job or something. But they are the things that keep GTA2 world from becoming hell, or so it seems. You can see the wanted level on top of your screen. In area 1 the maximum wanted level is 4 cops, in area 2 its 5, and in area 3 its 6.
When you have a wanted level of 1, its easy to lose it without spending any cash. When you have a wanted level of 2, you cant lose it without respraying or picking a Cop Bribe. When you get 3, cops start blocking roads with their cars. At wanted level of 4, you get chased by SWAT team wans. When you have 5, all usual police leaves and special angents are after you. And finally when your wanted level is 6, military forces take over the city, tanks and soldiers are everywhere looking for you.
There are three gangs in the Downtown District or area 1: the Zaibatsu underground corporation, the Japanese gang Yakuza, and the crazy Loonies. Zaibatsu members dress in black, ride in slick black cars with a Z on top of them, their territory is the upper right part of the city. They mostly carry pistols only. Yakuza are purple color, have fast purple cars with their logo on them, they usually carry no other weapons than a pistol. Their territory is about the bottom left and center part of the city. Loonies are in green, have small cars with a smiley face on them, often carry pistols. Loonie territory is the upper left part of the city. If for any of the gangs respect is shown negative they will attack you if you are near. If the respect is positive they wont touch you and if it's maximum they will shoot at any cops they see. You cannot have maximum respect for all gangs though. There always have to be one that hates you.
The Zaibatsu underground corporation, the SRS Scientists, and the Redneck gang are all belong to the Residential District. Zaibatsu is all the same as in area 1 just that when your respect for them is negative they carry and attack you with badder weapons like Dual Pistols and S-Uzi Machine Guns. SRS Scientists dress in yellow, ride in very fast yellow cars with their logo. You can find them in the bottom left part of the city. When they hate you they use S-Uzi Machine Guns and Flamethrowers to hunt you down.
