I am attending college to obtain a higher level of education and also to discover what kind of career I am interested in. I am unsure of what my future career goals are but college will definitely help me to become whatever I decide.
Before my parents were divorced, I lived in Arkansas. Then I moved to Kansas with my mom in 1996 and I now live in Ellinwood with my mom, sister and son. I quit school when I turned 16 and obtained my GED. In the process of completing my GED, I got into some trouble and was placed in a foster home for six months. While I was there, I decided to attend college. Barton was my only choice because it is the closest to home. I am coming to college at this time because I am not working or have any other interests right now and I want to be able to support myself and my son on my own someday.
Currently, at Barton I am just focusing on my basic classes. I am unsure what I am going to major in. Other classes that I am taking include Basic Algebra and Sociology, and I am not involved in any sports or activities. Most of my time is spent with my three-year-old son, but I also like to hang out with my friends when I can. My family and friends help me a lot in college, mostly with encouragement. Time management has been a struggle, but my mom is a huge help because she watches Tyler while I am at class.
My plan for the future is to earn an Associates degree from Barton. I am undecided at this time if I want to move on to another college after Barton but if I do, I will probably go to Fort Hays of Sterling. After finishing college I hope to find a good paying job. Five years after finishing my education I would like to have a career. Ten years after that I would like to be rich and own my own house and car. Twenty years after that I hope to be retired and vacationing all over the world!
I have decided that college is a good life choice for me right now because I would like to go further with my education so I can do something with my life. I am not in a big hurry to finish college at Barton because I am already ahead of my class, so I am taking my time. My reason for being in college has stayed the same since I enrolled. Being at Barton is helping me to achieve my goals for the future.
