Landscaping Projects

Trying to create some peace and privacy with all of our favorite plants, shrubs and vines.

Before, very nice, plenty or room for playful dobies, but a little bland and it felt too open to the neighbors great as they are

After

We put in an arbor with planter boxes that I had been using for herbs, but am thinking now of tomatoes and bulbs that will need to be pulled to overwinter;Im also thinking of lowering the boxes and making part of them into benches, but I dont know how difficult that would be.
a stone sitting area with a pond and memorial garden on one side and an evening/fragrance garden on the other has been a GREAT place to relax in the evenings.
The porch gets the morning sun where we have a shaded sitting area thats great for morning coffee; but we need to do more than just that one corner, porch deco ideas more than welcomed.
We mulched off planting areas around the walnut trees which will make another great shade garden, maybe room for a hammock and/or baby swing. I dont know if its enough room for a swingset.
Along the back fence where we planted lilac bushes for privacy and fragrance.
There are two raised gardens in the back for veggies and herbs and sun loving flowers and strawberries and roses along the side of the house. But Im rethinking these ideas, the vegitables have been difficult to water, and I'd like something with more effect than strawberries along the southside of the porch. Again, ideas more than welcome!! Im losing motivation with all of the mistakes.
Plenty of area for more! And we havent even touched the front yet.

I havent finished with the stones around the pond, but the plants have made a huge difference, and our little girl loves playing in the water.

These trellises have fallen with the weather, but I really liked the effect of a "room" within the yard,so considering replacing them with something more permanent unless I get a better suggestion in the meantime

Have moved this arbor next to the deck so the wisteria could climb it. Want to add an obelisk for the climbing rose that is still back there, and thinking about disassembling this garden because we werent using it back there. Considering a strawberry pyramid either here or on the other side.
This isnt working as a vegitable garden either. Its too far from the sprinklers to get enough water and too far from the house to be effective. Other ideas to hide the utility posts but not to need much digging since this is where ours and all of our neighbors lines run though.

Current Projects

Since that garden in the corner with the utility posts was not working, I spread the pavers along the fenceline. I plan to use some BHG or Lowes garden plants to plant flowers there with herbs and veggies between. Im still not sure what to do with that back corner. It wasnt working as a vegitable garden...i know the picture looks like its shaded, but the corner is actually very sunny just on the other side of that tree. It needs SOMEthing, but we cant dig deeply. Ornamental grass?

My memorial garden, buttom mums blooming and mini carnations behind them. Would like some mini roses and something tall for the very back, rosemary would be nice, but couldnt keep it alive outside here.

FLOWERS & Plants

I'm always willing to trade cuttings/seeds from any of my plants for things that would look good in our yard. I'm in a few yahoo seed swap groups and have a swap list on gardenweb.com. Ask for info and I'll be happy to get you information on both.
