Points and Fellowships

The Point System allows students the chance to earn points which can be redeemed for a fellowship at the end of the school year. Fellowships are designed to assist students in paying for their summer excavation expenses or other research in the field of archaeology that may be part of their degree requirements. Students can earn points throughout the year in numerous ways. Points are awarded to those who offer to sit at information tables, host parties, write articles for the Point, through fundraising and other similar activities. These points may be redeemed only at the end of the school year and cannot be transferred or carried over to the following year.

Points are redeemable for a Fellowship in April of each year.  Points cannot be carried over to following years.  You must be a paid Society member to earn points and receive a Fellowship, although non-members are still encouraged to participate in events.  The maximum amount of money awarded for a Fellowship is $1500.

1The point is the Archaeology Society's once a term newsletter. All articles are written by members of the society and they range from reviews of classes, tips on learning languages to comics and archaeological jokes. It is also required that students who go on field schools and have earned a fellowship also contribute an article to the newsletter.

2The Formal Committee begins its work in the fall in order to plan the Archaeology Formal that takes place early in the New Year. These volunteers meet after regular meetings and on other occasions as the Formal Coordinator dictates. It's a lot of fun to get involved in planning the large social evening for the whole department and at the same time you get points!
