Clinton Road

March 1, 2003

Those who risked their lives on this trip: Mike - John

Location
West Milford, NJ to Clinton, NJ

Story:
This ten mile long road has no houses on it except for the two farthest ends. Satan worshippers, witches, and the Ku Klux Klan are said to be active here. Lights can be seen in the woods and on the island in the middle of the reservoir where rituals and animal sacrifices supposedly take place. Also, people have even been chased by cars with people wearing hooded uniforms. Many say that the cult and racist members are trying to scare people away so they can practice their way of life in peace.
There are many legends having to do with the area surrounding Clinton Road. According to one of them, a boy died by a bridge on the road. If you stop at the bridge and throw a coin in the water below, the ghost boy will throw it back to you. Some say he'll walk up to you and give it back. Others say it will appear on your pillow the next morning.
Another legends states that there is a place on the road called Dead Man's Curve. If you go there at night and turn your headlights off, you will be able to see the ghosts of the people who have died there.
Also, in the woods off of Clinton Road, there was a place called Cross Castle, which is now only rubble. Supposedly it had dungeons where many people were killed and is now known for being haunted. Legend has it, if you sit in the middle of the foundation by yourself at midnight, the building will form around you and Satan will appear. He will then ask for your soul.
Many other strange things can be found in the woods and in the area surrounding Clinton Road. Dismembered bodies have been seen in the woods and hellhounds have been known to chase after people and their cars. Many old cemeteries dating back to the 1700's can be found too. Clinton Road also has dirt mounds on the side of the road that were supposedly dug by little demons. Between Paradise and Clinton Roads is said to be a haunted nudist colony. UFO's and even Albino Midget Cannibals have reportedly been seen here too. This is definitely a very strange place.

Mike's Comments:
I'd just like to start off by saying this is my favorite Crazy NJ location just because it lives up to the hype. We went in the afternoon and there was still snow so we didn't travel into the woods. We found the bridge however, and it's easy to see how the boy died there. The guard rail is broken and obviously atleast one car has gone through it. There is now a concrete divider to stop any more cars from going over. It's a DEADLY bridge. Please be careful if you choose to drive on this road. We saw footprints in the snow down at the base of the bridge, seemed like they came from under the bridge, a little weird. We also saw a shanty house that was rumored to be abandoned, and it looks that way but there was a black pickup behind it. We were not brave enough to travel into the woods because there was so much snow and there were "No Tresspassing" signs all over. Also, we saw a sign for Project U.S.E. with about 15 cars parked off the road, but no people. I found this extremely odd. I found out what Project U.S.E. is (thanx Nick). It is a wilderness/hiking group that frequents the Clinton road area. They are probably a little friendlier than the Albino Midget Cannibals. This road is definately a scare at night.
Second Trip: March 15, 2003 - Mike, John, Jill, Erin
This time we went at night and some jerks in a green durango were being jerks. We couldn't seem to lose them, they even went on 23 with us for a while. Overall, uneventful though.

Directions:
- Take The Parkway north to Exit 153-B. The exit is from the LEFT lane.
- You will merge onto Route 3 North.
- Stay on Route 3 for about 5 miles and then make a left onto Route 46 West.
- Stay on 46 until you see signs for Route 23 North.
- Merge onto 23 North and take it until you see a sign for Clinton Road. You would think a place like this would be more hidden, but it's pretty hard to miss it.
