Angel In The Mist

Angel In The Mist

Through thick white fog, she walked alone
for what seemed like a thousand years.
Her long flowing gown bunching between
her legs with each laboured step.
Although she would not give into
desperation, she had long since given
up any notion that there might be a
purpose to her journey. She believed she
was destined to walk this fog alone for eternity.

A deep gentle breeze brushed past her one
such eve. She welcomed the wind as a relief
to the monotony of her existence, and continued
on. The wind, not to be ignored, circled around
her feet gently, billowing her gown, then swirled
upwards to caress her cheek. It`s warm reassuring
touch stilled her trek and quickened her heart.
As she stood in perplexed silence, she heard his whisper,
"Meet me in a dream, meet me at our waterfall...".
She slowly looked to the heavens. Through the thinning
fog she saw the most amazing star. She closed her eyes
and listened with her heart, and her heart guided her
steps. She no longer walked, she floated, until she
came upon a glorious waterfall.

He came to her then. Dressed in black, a single red
rose in his extended hand. As she accepted his rose
she accepted his heart, and it became one with hers.
He taught her of enduring love by simply caressing her
cheek with his hand. In that instant she understood
her purpose. A star, their forever star, was the
beginning of their timeless journey together.

Every night she met him in their dream,
she met him at their waterfall.
In the light of day his breeze
continued to surround her.

Then one night she stumbled and fell. She failed to meet
him in his dream. His disappointment caused her to doubt
herself. She tried too hard to make it up to him, and in
his eyes, she stumbled too often. He fell too. But he
was mortal. She was held to a higher standard.

He stopped meeting her in a dream. he no longer came to
their waterfall. He knew she was an angel in the mist,
but he no longer believed she was his. She knew he had
to follow his dream and find his own angel.

Then one evening as she stumbled through the thick white
fog that had returned to her, she came across their waterfall.
Gazing through the thick air, her eyes fell upon her Love whispering
to a new angel,"Meet me in a dream, meet me at our waterfall...".
The only sign that the shattering of her heart had been heard,
was the fading of the brightest star in the heavens.

Now a bewildered angel walks alone.
The other half of her soul is gone.
A single faded rose petal at her feet, the only
monument to remind her of all that was lost.

Her heart will come no more.
