TimeSplitters Machinima

By Shock Trooper

Machinima has featured a rapid increase in popularity over the years, thanks to such series as Red Vs Blue propelling it into the mainstream. Now, there are two aspects to Machinima;

1. It has a horrific name that is fairly difficult to memorise, never mind spell

2. It can involve any game.

And of course, our beloved Timesplitters has also joined the collective of games used to film Machinima, though it's unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately) nowhere near as popular as say, Halo.

As such, I've decided to write a little article on the subject of Machinima, or rather the few pieces of TS Machinima that I can get my grubby little paws on. The first of these and perhaps the most well known would have to be the short lived series Yellow Vs Green.

Yellow Vs Green is the series that springs into the minds of most fans that have seen what little there is of Ts Machinima, though the series was ultimately short lived and ended only after seven episodes. Though it only lasted a relatively short period of time, Yellow Vs Green managed to become the apparent image of what little Ts Machinima exists. This may have been due to its similarity to Red Vs Blue, or have been due to the lack of Ts Machinima (I HATE that word) about.

However, not really fulfilled that knowing Yellow Vs Green was the only Machinima of our favourite FPS, I divulged further into the perilous lands of the interweb, only to discover solid gold in the form of Us Vs Them.

Us Vs Them not only outlasted in Yellow Vs Green in episodes, but was also made before it, but thanks to an apparent lack of publicity, the series was simply buried under piles of dead TS fansites. The series follows a similar pattern to Red Vs Blue (Obviously, every Machinima these days is at least partially inspired by the multicoloured beast), but also differentiates it in many ways. Us Vs Them is horribly underrated and in my opinion, is the best out there.

However, after a month or so without discovering more juicy TS goodness (With the exception of my somewhat terrifying obsession with Viola), a devout TS fan known as "Shoe" brought to us a new Machinima, dubbed simply as S.C.W.R.O: The Story of Guards.

This one-off mockumentary appeared from nowhere and was quickly taken in by the TS fans as a marvelous addition to the planet (Albeit small planet; Possibly a dwarf planet, like that sod Pluto) of TS Machinima. After discovering this, I began to research once more and of recent months, have noticed more of the wondrous thing known as "TS Machinima".

The first of these that came to my attention was "As the Hamster Wheel Turns", an ongoing series with a more dramatic, somewhat more adult attitude not seen in many other series. It also contains brilliant camera angles and a pretty good script. As it's the only TS Machinima series that I know of that's still alive, I wish good luck to the creators and may "As the Hamster Wheel Turns" live a long and fruitful life.

All in all, I hope you have enjoyed this little adventure into the World of TS Machinima, and I hope you enjoy the various TS Machinima that exist.
