Mutant abilities - Nightcrawler has the mutant power to climb up walls much like Spider-Man, and can teleport himself, his clothing and a certain amount of additional mass from one point to another almost instantaneously. During teleportation, he leaves behind smoke and the smell of burning brimstone - actually part of the atmosphere from the unknown dimension through which he travels. In addition to tremendous natural agility and a prehensile tail, Nightcrawler possesses the unconscious ability to blend into deep shadows.

Background story -

Ever since Kurt's birth, he's always had indigo fur covering his body and a demonic appearance that has shocked and desturbed many people. Fearing for her son's life, Mystique ran with the baby and tossed him over a waterfall and into the arms of Margail Szardos, who found the boy and adopted him as her own.Kurt grew up in the Bavarian circus called Der Jammakart and performed as an acrobat that the public thought was just an elaborate costume. Over time, Kurt developed a close relationship with the sorceress Margali's daughter, Jimaine and came to blows with his step brother Stefan many times.The last time he would face his brother was when he was supposedly commiting crimes in town and young Kurt sought out to stop him and ended up killing him accidently. This caused a massive uproar from the townspeople and they went after him with nought but ill intent. Young Kurt was saved just in the nick of time by Professor Charles Xavier.Xaiver was looking for new mutants that would save the original X-Men from the island that walks like a man, Krakoa. Kurt accepted his offer and joined Wolverine, Storm, Thunderbird, Colossus ,Sunfire, Banshee, Wolverine and Cyclops on a trip to free the other X-Men.After the battle, Kurt stayed with the X-Men and eventually found his true love, Jimaine living in the United States as Amanda Sefton, who was a flight attendant. He stayed with the X-Men for many years and when the X-Men were presumed dead, he, Shadowxcat and Phoenix II left the U.S. to go to England. Once there, he helped to form the super team Excalibur with Meggan and Captain Britain.Months passed and the X-Men were revealed to be alive and Kurt rose to become Excalibur's leader and let Colossus and Wolfsbane join the group along with Douglock, who was a fuzion of Warlock and Cypher, Doug Ramsey. It was during his time with Excalibur that Kurt found out that his teammate in X-Men was his step sister and Mystique was his mother. Years before, in their first confrontation in Washington D.C., the possibility of Raven being Kurt's mother was raised.After the wedding of Captain Britain and Meggan, Kurt decided to disband the team and return to the X-Men with Shadowcat and Colossus. Kurt and the X-Men partook in a search for Xaiver, who was missing since the Onslaught debacle which cost many of Earth's mightest their lives. After that, Kurt decided to stay with the X-Men and to become a priest while only fighting with the X-Men part time. That has proven difficult for Kurt since many of the recent adventures fighting the Neo had forced his preisthood calling to be on hold at the present time.
