Comic Reviews for November 27, 2002

Ah...Turkey Day has come and gone. Boy that was refreshing. I think I'll wait another year before doing that again.

Hey, at least there is a reason to finally start getting prepared for flippin' Christmas. Let's get on with the books though. Short week, so enjoy.

Agent X 5
Dead Man's Switch Part Five of Six: A Little Crazy - By Gail Simone and UDON Studios; published by Marvel Comics

It's pretty much setup for the conclusion to the first arc for the title. I'm not exactly sure why Arcade has shown up for, except maybe for the same exact reason why Higashi has. Taskmaster discloses a key piece of info slip (though we all had that feeling since the beginning) as Hayden and Wade Wilson being one in the same. Still a really good book.

Midnight, Mass 8
Secrets - By John Rozum, Jesus Saiz and Jimmy Palmiotti; published by DC Comics/Vertigo imprint

Conclusion to the first mini (there is a second one planned), as the Kadmon's summon some mystical guy to excorsize the demons hunting Jenny. It's all done well, but this really isn't my cup of tea. It remains to be seen whether I'll collect the second volume of this.

Score: 7/10

Thundercats: Reclaiming Thundera 4
By Ford Lytle Gilmore, Ed Mc Guinness and Jason Martin; published by DC Comics/Wildstorm imprint

Well, at least the regular art guy is back on. Why he wasn't on the last issue, I have no idea. Same continues to apply for this. It's the Thundercats. It's quick. It's brainless.

Score: 5/10

Ultimate X-Men 25
Hellfire and Brimstone Part 5 of 5 - By Mark Millar, Adam Kubert and Danny Miki; published by Marvel Comics/Ultimate imprint

The Hellfire Club invites Xavier over for a cup of tea, kidnap him, summon the Phoenix Force into Jean, only to get wiped out in the process. Oh yes. All very good stuff happening, nothing which I can complain about. The little thing with Jean at the end of the scene looks to be interesting, and the cliffhanger at the end is a great little touch, leading into the Ultimate War mini. Oh, the Beast/Brotherhood dating subplot finished off screen, but that was what the cliffhanger was for. Good stuff.

Score: 8/10

X-Statix 5 *Pick of the Week*
Good Omens Part 5 of 5: The Mysterious Fan Boy! - By Peter Milligan and Paul Pope; published by Marvel Comics

Nice little conclusion/epilogue for the opening arc. I say epilogue because it feels like one, especially after the way the last issue concluded (that and with the fill-in art this month from Pope). Interesting little thing about Arnie, and a bit of a tragic ending at that. I was starting to like the little bastard too. Pope is on art this month. It is pretty good, but it really doesn't fit well with Allred's art, or earlier fill-in's for that matter. Overall though, another good issue. Can't complain.

Next week...Marvel. All Marvel. No DC. No Image. Just one Dark Horse (maybe two, find out on Monday). No indie stuff. Man I need a vacation. Until then, peace.
