Opus N' Andy at the Basketball Game
It was a tradition, for a while, in the Huskie Pep Band, to yell 'Massengail!' before every home team free throw. The joke being that the whole crowd, in an older tradition, would yell 'Woosh!' if the free throw was good. The effect of 5000 people yelling that in the old field house blured the yell into sounding like 'douche'. Get it? Massengail...Douche!!! The joke was funny the first 600 times or so; except when the free throw was missed, which removed the punch line from the joke; but it unfortunately got bastardized into something that didn't make sense. Some people thought it would be funny to yell other stuff instead of Massengail. 'Summer's Eve' was funny, but it eventually broiled down to people just yelling names of people they didn't like or wanted to razz. 'Gerald O'Dell... Douche!', 'Nellinger... Douche!, 'Patek... Douche!', you get the idea. After several months of this, no one got the joke anymore, and I think some Freshmen didn't even know what the original joke was. Speaking of jokes. I was never happy with the punchline of this strip. This is the reason for the 'funny for a change' line at the end of the cartoon.
