The Screechers From Hell

Opus N' Andy was never intended to be a recurring cartoon strip. However, after I posted my fun little piece of artwork (the 'Original Poster') on the band bulletin board, a cartoon strip appeared there a few days later. It was titled Opus N' Andy, but was not drawn by me. It was drawn by a drummer in the band named Dave Schaeff and all of the artwork in it was traced from Bloom County books. Now we cartoonists are very competitive and I didn't want someone else riding my idea down the mountain. So, of course, I made my own Opus N' Andy cartoon, and this one was it.

The 'screechers from hell' were four brass players in the band who often played their instruments much much higher then they usually go (hence 'screechers'). Bryan and Brian are now high school band directors. Ed plays professionaly and Dave writes marching band drill, so they all managed to get something positive out of band somehow. For those of you unfamilliar with the Bibb era at NIU. Mr. Bibb was the band's director from about 1986-1997. About 85% of the band got personally called a bonehead by him at one time or another during there tenure in the band. Hence the charicature of him in frame 5. This cartoon launched the long tradition of alchohol and vomiting being themes in Opus N' Andy.
