MOTHMAN

Byron Lewis was Mothman, an original member of the Minutemen, the first justice society of vigilantes, in 1939; he was a rather high-strung, alcoholic, and wholly unlikely crimefighter.

The most notable quality of Mothman is his apparent lack of bravado. McCarthyism was his final undoing because he had "left wing friends" from "his student days." Therefore, the pressure from the House UnAmerican Activities Committee finally broke Mothman down mentally, and he turned to alcohol to bolster his nerve. He eventually wound up in an asylum in Maine.
