Easiest Way to Get Your Job Back

Stefan was supposed to be fired. Well, he was, but then he wasn’t. He was fired in the morning but then he had his job back by the evening. How did all of that happen? It’s a funny story, really. It goes a little something like this…

Stefan was sitting at his desk typing. Nothing special, really. He thought it was going to be just another day at work. It was then he noticed that someone was standing next to him at his desk. Stefan looked out of the corner of his eye. A petite woman in a gray dress suit stood next to him. Stefan rolled his eyes.

“What is it?” he asked. The woman looked nervous at first.

“The boss wants to see you,” she said in a whisper. Stefan turned to her with a puzzled look on his face.

“Why?” he asked. The woman trembled a bit.

“Please,” she said. Stefan stood up from his desk. Across the room, Nikkita looked up to see his friend following the woman to the office. The rest of the employees could feel the nervous air around them.

“How long have you been working here, Dashkov?” the boss asked. Stefan did a quick count in his head.

“Six years. Why?” he asked. The boss frowned at him.

“And how do you think you’re doing on the job?” he asked.

“Good?” Stefan asked with a goofy grin on his face. That answer hung there for a beat. The man had the feeling that something bad was about to happen.

“Uh…” he said. The boss didn’t say a word. Instead, he pulled out a folder and slammed it onto the desk.

“Do you know what this is?” he asked.

“No?” Stefan asked. The boss looked ready to cuss him off.

“For the past two years, your performance has been awful!” the older man snapped. Stefan stared at him with big eyes.

“What?” he asked.

“What do you think I’m paying you for?”

“Paperwork. And looking handsome.” Stefan chuckled. But then his laughter came to a stop. “Oh.” His boss, Yuri, had a cold look on his face.

“Listen,” he said. “You are a great man to party with. But your job performance…” Yuri shook his head. For the first time, Stefan started to look worried.

“Boss…” he said.

“I am so sorry,” the older man said. “I’m going to have to let you go. Not my call. The higher-ups told me to do it.” There was nothing sincere in his voice. Stefan’s face dropped. It took a moment for it to sink in.

“What?! You can’t be serious!” he shouted. Yuri shook his head.

“Sorry, buddy. It is what it is,” he said. “Have good day. Out you go. Bye now!” Stefan sat there was a blank stare on his face. Yuri rolled his eyes.

“Go on! Pack up your things and get going,” he said, shooing him away. “Come on. Don’t make me call security on you.” Yuri leaned in close to Stefan’s face.

“Go home, pal. You’re not welcome here anymore,” he said in a small voice. And that was that. Twenty minutes later, Stefan packed up his things and was out the door.

He didn’t go home right away. Stefan made it to his favorite coffee shop. The barista looked up at him with a surprised look on her face.

“Dashkov! You’re back early. What happened?” she asked. Stefan walked over and leaned over on the counter.

“I got fired, Doll face,” he said.

“Aw, why?” she asked. The man shrugged and shook his head. He buried his head in his hands and groaned. The barista gave him a sympathetic look.

“Anything I can get for you?” she asked.

“The usual,” Stefan mumbled.

“Coming up,” she said. The former businessman didn’t look up as she heard her walking away from him. What was he going to do now? He thought that everything was cool. How did he fuck up so badly? No one said a thing. He and Nikkita were the golden boys of the office. What the hell happened?

Speaking of which…

Stefan felt his phone buzz in his phone. He had a good guess as to who it was.

“What is it?” the man asked.

“What happened, man?” Nikkita asked. Stefan groaned and rolled his eyes.

“I got fired, bro,” he said.

“Seriously?”

“Yeah.”

“Why?”

Stefan groaned and rolled his eyes. “I don’t know!” The barista came back with his coffee. He mouthed “thank you” at her. Another thought crossed his mind.

“Hey man, I think you should be careful,” Stefan said. “You might be next.”

“What? Why?” Nikkita asked. His friend looked the shop window.

“If he could get me…” Stefan said. His mind started to wander off elsewhere. He felt his phone buzz in his hand. Huh? What was that? The man looked at his phone. There was a new Tweet? At first, Stefan looked confused. When did he have Twitter on his phone? He narrowed his eyes at the notification.

“Stef? Stef, are you okay? Stef? Stef?” Nikkita asked. His friend stared at the screen as the answer clicked in his brain. Oh yeah, there was a girl at the office he had been flirting with. Twenty years old and pretty hot-looking. She had Twitter. Stefan didn’t really use it. Still, he wanted to stalk her in a way that didn’t come across as creepy. So, he downloaded Twitter on his phone and signed up. Nikkita thought him crazy to do this.

“But you’ve never been interested in that kind of tech,” he said.

“No,” Stefan said. “But I would like to have a way to be contacted just in case.” His friend gave him a strange look.

“You have never been a text guy,” he said.

“No,” Stefan said. “But it never hurts to try, does it?” Nikkita just made a face as he shook his head.

Today, it was about to pay off.

Stefan tapped the screen. Twitter opened up. The man went over to the notification section. The girl was on Twitter all of the time. He didn’t dare to interact with her. If he wanted to talk to her, he would do it in person. The girl only tweeted about work, what she was eating, and the books that she enjoyed. Stefan walked over to a table to sit down and read. One tweet caught his attention just as he took another sip of his coffee.

“Hm? What is this?” he asked himself. Stefan tapped on the screen. He narrowed his eyes. Her status read as follows: “This was what my boss sent me today.” There was a screenshot attracted to it. Stefan’s jaw dropped. He had seen that email before. He opened up the email app on his phone. There was a little trick that he learned on the first day that he used his personal phone as his work phone. It happened by accident, to tell the truth. Even Stefan didn’t know how he did, but he used that to his advantage. He use it he did! The man had to keep this little glitch to himself. There was no way that he was going to lose his lead over the company. Not even Nikkita knew about this.

“Sorry, bro,” Stefan said to himself as he closed out of that email app on his screen that first night he discovered the glitch in his email app. “I’m keeping this one to myself. I can’t let you have it.”

The man searched through the different folders that he had save through his work email. It didn’t take long for Stefan to find the file that he was looking for. He searched through Yuri’s email account. If the tweet  was what he thought it was, this had to have happened about last night. It didn’t take long for him to find what he was looking for. Stefan read over the email and broke into a huge grin.

“Got ya, bitch!” he said to himself. The man took another sip of his coffee. If he played his cards right, Stefan would have his job back before the day was over. He collected enough emails to do enough damage to get Yuri’s attention. Stefan read over each one as he finished off his coffee. Once he got enough of a weapon on his side, Stefan wrote a little email himself to the other manager and hit send. He walked up to the counter to pay for his drink. The barista held up her hand.

“On the house,” she said.

“Nice!” Stefan said. “Thank you, Doll Face.” She blushed as he winked at her. He threw away his cup and walked out of the coffee shop. Now all he had to do was to wait for that phone call.

By the next morning, Stefan was back at his desk again. He smirked to himself as he typed up more information on the computer.
