Wild ARMS 2
PSX
SCEA - 2000
Ok, I don't have that much to discuss here about Wild ARMS 2. It's a fun game altogether. It supposedly takes place in a "Wild West" world, although it feels extremely European, and the only western thing is the guns, or ARMS characters use. The plot is a basic rpg plot, team up, this time with a military army (although I'm pretty sure only your characters are the fighters of this military) and stop the bad guy organization. I'm not going to go into much detail, one cool thing though is you start with an intro for each character, to sort of show their personality. Then you play as they team up. So the idea was good and all, Suikoden III stole it and built upon it where you play with the different view points thruout the story. Basically, if you are looking for an older, SNES feel, but easy and quite enjoyable game, look no further than here. But if you want purty graphics, run as fast away as you can. Now read this stuff:
What liked: The battles were well done. They covered everything I really like in battles. When your character is a higher level than the enemy, it will usually hit for zero. You can get a special personal skills that turn your extra fp from each battle into health, so if you have enough, after every battle you will be healed fully. Basically all you have to do is just attack on normal battles, and you will be fully healed at the end. It's great.
What disliked: The graphics were horrendous. Just to put it mildly. The game came out the same summer as Vagrant Story, which came out after FF8, and the graphics look worse than FF7. I like the idea of sprites and 3-D backgrounds, it is my favorite mixture for rpgs, but the sprites look so grainy...
What to expect: A normal rpg plot, almost unbearable graphics, and fun gameplay.
What not to expect: Good, or even mediocre graphics.
What's so different from this and other games of it's genre: It supposedly has a western theme, but doesn't hit upon it much. If you really want a more western feel, try Wild ARMS 3.
Ratings on:
Control: 7 - A little annoying at times, when you run, you can't turn.
Graphics: 2 - Just because they do use sprites. It's all really bad though.
Sound: 3 - Not even decent.
Style: 4 - It's a western RPG. But it still feels like a normal, fantasy RPG with guns. But some points for trying. Mostly though, it is a blatant rip off of FF7. Not that that is a bad thing...
1st hour: 7 - Wow, pretty opening. That's cool. You choose who to start with.
5th hour: 5 - Oh, you play as the other people as well. So, why didn't they just put a certain order. For you never get to choose who to play as after that...
1st week: 6 - The only thing that is keeping me playing is the fact that the battles are easy as bot, and so the plot is easy to keep track of, for you never have to level up.
5th week:
#1 reason why I hate this game: Nothing really "new" and "fun" to keep my interest long enough. And the graphics make me want to play E.T.
