Samuri Jack: The Shadow of Aku
PS2
Sega USA - 2004
Hello. My name is Hawke. I have Leukemia. Cartoon Network felt sorry for me and sent me a bundle of stuffs. Included in this bundle was 4 gameboy advance games and Samuri Jack for PS2. Wow, everyone should get leukemia.
But really. Cartoon Network. Bless their hearts. I love them to death, they make great cartoons, but videogames? Can we trust them with our videogames?
Samuri Jack seemed like a good idea. After all, it is a cool cartoon, crazy Samuri guy running around in the future, destroying stuff, and showing off incredible backgrounds. Why not make a game about it? It would be like awesome! Ki-Yah! I stab you with a sword!
Who am I kidding? This game is crap.
Okay. They got a few things done. Well, finished. The backgrounds look similar in taste to the cartoon, so there is a, um, plus maybe? Jack is voiced by the same person, or at least a competent double.
Yeah that's about it.
I guess, basically, they didn't bother to finish the game. Someone went about this half-assed at least. It is sad, because you can tell some people actually tried to make a game here, then the rest just phoned it in. It would be like if Free Ohio, Sundu and I were to make a game. I would get all excited, put together a few ideas, get Sundu to give me money, then give up as Free Ohio took over. Wait, we've already been there.
The background guy really liked his job. This was probably his first game. He was all like, "Oh snap, I'm gonna make this game, then Square is gonna hire me!" He made a few levels, they are nice and look a bit like Wind Waker, which is probably the way to go with a cartoon game. Then he turned them in. The character guy didn't give a crap about this game. He's the one that has been making games like Dark Angel and Taz: Wanted. So the game is very imbalanced.
What liked: The cartoon.
What disliked: The game.
What to expect: Simple. Hack. And. Slash.
What not to expect: Something worth playing.
What's so different from this and other games of it's genre: Free?
Ratings on:
Control: "Jack," and I call him that even though he is never named, is awfully controlled. He does not like to actually move when you tell him to, he jumps like a rock and likes to pause for about a minute after every swing.
Graphics: I'm not even going there
Sound: There are voices. There is no subtitles for voices, so you have to listen. That means you have to have the volume on, which is a negative.
Style: ... You are kidding, right?
1st hour: I have nothing to do. I will play this game. I've had it for weeks and I guess I should open it and play it.
5th hour: That was a mistake.
1st week: ...
5th week: ...
#1 reason why I hate this game: Look, another robot. Let us attack him "Jack." No, swing your sword a SECOND TIME! Don't just stand there! Idiot! How are we gonna save the world now?
