Chaos Emeralds
Name: Chaos Emeralds
Bios: Originally, Doctor Ovi Kintobor used six gems he called Chaos Emeralds to contain the evil of Planet Mobius in order to make it truly a peaceful place, but he was unable to track down the seventh Emerald and, after a lab accident caused him to absorb the Emeralds’ evil and become the evil Doctor Robotnik, he hid the Emeralds in the Special Zone. However, Sonic managed to retrieve them and hide them from Robotnik in the North Cave, where the sub-zero temperature kept the Emeralds stable (this due to the fact that earlier the radiation from the unstable Emeralds altered Sonic and caused him to become Super Sonic whenever exposed to Emerald power or under stress). Captain Plunder took the Emeralds from the North Cave after Porker Lewis accidentally let slip where they were, but Sonic was able to get them back easily enough and he kept them in a special box in the Freedom Fighters underground base.
Then, the Floating Island was found. The Floating Island is kept in the sky by seven Chaos Emeralds which were created many years ago by the Drakon Empire, who stole the Emeralds from the Echidnas mines and empowered them, this caused the Great War between the Echidnas and the Drakon which caused all the Echidnas to be wiped out bar a few, who left Knuckles to guard the Emeralds. Robotnik tricked Knuckles into thinking Sonic was after his Emeralds and this caused Robotnik to get his hands on the six Chaos Emeralds that Sonic had and to combine their powers with the Emeralds of the Floating Island. After Knuckles used the Grey Emerald, the control Emerald, to take away Robotnik’s powers it seemed that the Emeralds were once again at full power as they had become giant, shining jewels.
The Master Emerald, which is the heart of the Floating Island and source of the power of the Chaos Emeralds, has been stolen and removed from the Emerald Chamber many times by Doctor Robotnik as he used it to empower his Death Egg. However, Sonic was able to return the Master Emerald back to the Floating Island before the Island could sink into the sea. However, when a strange Robot started tearing apart the Island and a deceitful Echidna named Doctor Zachary both arrived to attack the Emeralds, the Master Emerald was shattered and its powers absorbed by the Robot. Knuckles was able to defeat Zachary and save his home by using the Robot’s head as a power source. Knuckles then had to venture into the Kohenyu Graveyard and convince the Spirit Of The Herd to let him dig up a new Master Emerald.
After the Master Emerald was successfully restored, Sonic took a fall down the Emerald Chamber and became Super Sonic once more, intent on killing his friends. However, his demon self was separated from him by Amy, Tails and Johnny. Knuckles, Sonic and Tails found their troubles mounting as Robotnik and Grimer manipulated the Drakon Empire, who were angrily trying to reclaim the Chaos Emeralds, into capturing the Emeralds and allowing Robotnik to absorb their full powers once more. Robotnik’s powers transformed him into a God but Sonic tricked Robotnik into letting Knuckles once again use the Grey Emerald to remove his powers and he faded to nothingness. Shortly after this, Sonic discovered an eighth Emerald, the Black Emerald, in the home Universe of the devious Shayde, however he had to destroy it in order to save Johnny.
Knuckles had his own problems, as the Emerald Chamber was invaded by members of the Doctor Robotnik Appreciation Tribe (DRAT) who almost managed to steal the Emeralds but were foiled by Porker Lewis and Knuckles. However, there was nothing Knuckles to do to avoid jettisoning the Chaos Emeralds and causing the Island to sink into the sea when Chaos attempted to absorb their powers. Unfortunately, Chaos tracked down each of the Emeralds and transformed into Perfect Chaos. Luckily, Super Sonic appeared to power himself up again, defeating Chaos and becoming an evil demon once more. A spell from Ebony caused Super Sonic and Sonic to merge once more and the battle was won. The Chaos Emeralds are a source of great power but also the cause of a lot of trouble on Planet Mobius.
