When Nitro was born, his rich, bigot father had extensive gene testing done on Scott to see if he was a mutant. Finding that he actually WAS a mutant, he locked his son in the basement. His caring mother took care of Scott behind the father's back, but stopped when Scott became able to take care of himself. Scott lived the next 12 years of his life in that basement, lifting whatever was down there for strength, and eating rats for food when his mother couldn't sneak him something. Scott developed severe psychological problems in that basement, but also developed great strength from lifting in his endless spare time. It wasn't long until he realized his mutancy, and got out of that house with extreme prejudice, taking down both of his parents with it. With both of them dead, Scott wandered the land for a while until he found the Alpha Squadron, who attacked him for some destruction he had left in a town he had gone through. After losing a battle with Sizzle, he decided he had nothing better to do than join the team.
