Alter was born into a loving family, loving regardless of the purple color of their son's skin. But his parents knew better than to assume the rest of the world would be so accepting. He was kept at home and privately tutored, all of his human interactions being with his parents and his only window into the outside world being his television.

When he got older, his cabin fever started to set in, dreaming of the outside world he could only see through his television. One day, he dreamed a little too hard, picturing the world he was watching through his TV in his head, he opened his eyes to find himself there. Thankfully, he only went to another island on Hawaii, and after a quick boat ride fully of staring, terrified people, he was home.

Disparaged by his first time in public, he went back to being a recluse, practicing his powers around the house as opposed to going outside. Later, when he saw Sizzle announce the team on the news, he decided he would have to join the team. After informing his parents of his decision, he packed up and instantly transported into the middle of the Alpha Mansion, to be greeted by Sizzle with a sword to his throat. After an explanation, Sizzle lowered his sword and admitted him to the team.

Later, after evaluating his powers with the team's computers, Sizzle informed Alter that his powers were not specifically teleportation, but the altering of the reality around him. In fact, he told Alter that he was able to teleport by moving space-time around himself, not moving himself through space, and that there was no limit to what he could do if he mastered his powers. Sizzle offered to help Alter learn about his powers while he was on the team, but also secretly plans to monitor him and his potentially dangerous powers.
