"The end of the beginning"

It's been awhile since I last updated hasn't it? And here I am almost one month later with nothing to say. I have been thinking alot about this webcomic though. I think I'm done. I don't know if I should continue to keep working on this comic. It's a lack of motivation. It's not what it once was. I'm just getting tired of it. I don't know what it is. So for now I'm thinking of shelving Baka Comics. I may come back and revisit sometime down the road, but for now I want to try something else. In no way does this mean that Baka Comics is dead. Nope, far from it. I have some ideas I'm currently working on. Right now I'm thinking of creating a website devoted to movies. I think that would be pretty cool. So for now I'm going to continue to update this site with rants and whatnot. Oh yeah, it's Eddie's birthday today. He turns 21. So, happy birthday, Eddie. With that said it's time to go on to the part of the rant where I talk about movies. My favorite part :)

For those of you who are interested in what kind of camcorder I bought, I ended up getting the Canon ZR300, $499 at Best Buy. I got my first assignment in film class two weeks ago. It's a group project. Four people to each crew, my crew ended up with three, which sucked. I have to be honest, working with a crew is dificult. Everyone has their own ideas that they want to use and everything becomes one big mess. There were too many creative differences in our group. Everyone wants to do it their way. I found myself wanting to leave the group and work on this project by myself. So in the end our project ended up really bad. It was horrible. When the teacher screened it to the class I ended up leaving because I didn't want to see it. Next up in my film class is the final project, a short film 2-10 minutes in length. I have something I'm working on right now that I really want to do. The only problem is finding actors. I could use my friends if I had any :P, but I really don't want to. It's not that I don't like them, it's just that I have seen alot of student films where they use their friends and the end result is just...bleh. So I'm probably going to have to place ads all over campus asking for actors/actresses. Hopefully I'll get a few responses, otherwise I may have to scrap this project I'm working on and come up with something else, which I don't want to do.

I have been buying DVD's left and right the past two weeks. I wasn't a big Robert Rodriguez fan up until now, but after reading his book Rebel Without A Crew, I have a new found respect for the guy. He went out and took $7,000 of his hard earned money and made an awesome movie. A movie that one at Sundance, a movie that pretty much started his career. So with that said I went out and bought the whold Mariachi trilogy, "El Mariachi", "Desperado", and "Once Upon A Time In Mexico". All of them are cool but my favorite is El Mariachi, after that it goes downhill. To be honest I didn't even know this was a trilogy. I thought Desperado was a remake of El Mariachi, but I was wrong. Anyways, after that I turned my attention towards Western films (Spaghetti Westerns I should say). And what better place to start than with Sergio Leone and Clint Eastwood. After watching A Fistful of Dollars I immediately went out and bought For A Few Dollars More, The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly, and Once Upon A Time In The West. And to finish this list, House of Flying Daggers and Shaolin Soccer, both are great movies, especially House of Flying Daggers.

Revenge of the Sith is less than a month away. I can't wait. May 19th is going to be my Christmas. With that said the very first Episode III review is here, and it comes from one of the biggest Star Wars fans out there, Kevin Smith. Unfortunately his review is full of major spoilers. So if you don't like that kind of stuff you should stay clear. Here are a few things that Kevin Smith had to say. "Revenge of the Sith" is, quite simply, fucking awesome. This is the "Star Wars" prequel the haters have been bitching for since "Menace" came out, and if they don't cop to that when they finally see it, they're lying. As dark as "Empire" was, this movie goes a thousand times darker." I like what I'm hearing about the film so far. This has been a pretty bad year for movies so far. It's going to get better in the coming months. Another movie I'm looking forward to this year is Batman Begins. From what I've seen this new Batman film is already 100 times better than the last two films.

I'm exhausted. This is probably the longest rant I have ever written. I still have a big pile of movies to finish. I'll be back with another update soon. Hopefully it won't take another month.

"Making movies isn't cheap"

Well, it looks like I'm going to have to buy myself a camcorder. Because you cant make a movie if you dont have a camera. This came as a suprise to me, because I was talking to a guy who took film/video classes, and he told me that you are able to rent out cameras at the school. First day of class the teacher says, "You're expected to provide your own camera for all class assignments." Well there's no way I'm going to be dropping this class, so I'm gonna go out and buy myself a new MiniDV camera this weekend. I've been doing my homework and checking out alot of these camcorders. But I still haven't decided on one yet. I'm working on a small budget, the camera price range I'm looking at is around $300-$350, which is pretty limited in the types of cameras that are available. I'll let you know what I end up getting this weekend.

Here are a few camcorders I'm considering.

JVC GR-D250 MiniDV Camcorder

JVC GRD33 MiniDV Digital Camcorder

Panasonic PVGS9 MiniDV Compact Digital Camcorder

Sony DCR-TRV280 Digital8 Handycam Camcorder

Samsung SCD353 MiniDV Camcorder

If anyone has any suggestions or anything please let me know. Thanks.

"I have some explaining to do"

Today's strip was a little late, sorry about that. It took me awhile to finish this. This weeks movie spoof is from Harold & Kumar go to White Castle. This is the first spoof that I have done which actually connects with the characters and the story. You'll have to go back and read strip number 21 to get the joke. And yes, that is a bear on top of the burger. That bear is the mascot of Crazy Burger. It'll all be explained in the upcoming storyline. Oh yeah, I have some good news and I have some bad news. That three page paper I wrote in one day got a 90/100. That's the good news, the bad news? The ad's are back. :( I'm starting to run out of money, so I need to cut back on a few things. Unfortunatley that means this website. I know you're all devestated by this news. :P But you'll just have to deal with it for the time being.

"Wow"

Man, the Episode III trailer fucking owned. But then again that's what I said about the last two trailers. Hopefully the movie will be good and not just the trailer. I downloaded a high res version of the trailer that was ripped from the Fox brodcast. I'll try to see If I can find that link so I can post it for everybody.

So yesterday I got a call from an old friend of mine. He's telling me about this contest over at Tokyopop called the Rising stars of Manga. It's where people submit their own short story manga and the top ten contestants get their manga published by Tokyopop. So my friend had an idea for a manga and wants me to join him. There was no way I could refuse this so I agreed. So we went over to Borders to read some of the manga that had previously won. Some of the artwork is plain and simple and some of it is simply awesome. So while we were doing this we were thinking of ideas for our manga. Unfortunately the current contest is now over so were going to have wait until the next one comes along. But in the mean time we have decided to turn our story in to, get this, a webcomic. Yes, you heard me right, a webcomic. This is coming from a guy who has no business doing a webcomic. :P But I think this one will work, why? Well my friend will probably do most of the artwork, so that's a good thing. :) I'll fill you in as we get more information. I have to get going, I have to write a 3 page research paper for my film class and I haven't even started yet. :P Procrastination rules.

Here's some more Star Wars news to pass along. This is for all the AOL users out there. Here's the link to the Episode III trailer. And for those of you who dont have AOL, fear not, because I found another site that has the trailer. But you better watch it fast, because it might not be up for long.

------------------------------------------------------

There's just about two months to go until Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith hits theaters. Hopefully George Lucas can redeem himself from the previous two prequels. Man, those two movies really sucked. Anyways, for those of you who are interested, the full length trailer will be airing tomorrow on Fox. It'll be shown sometime during The O.C. The theatrical poster has just been released. Nothing fancy, it's very simple. You can find out more over at IGN.

"A bit of the old ultra-violence"

Hello my fellow droogs,I have another movie spoof for this week. This time featuring everyone's favorite raver, Norman. And yes, those are glowsticks he's holding in his hand. I was origianlly going to use Eddie instead of Norman. But seeing as we haven't seen Norman in a long time, I decided to use Norman. I think this piece turned out a lot better than I thought it would. I really like the tagline I came up with. It fits Norman well. The original tagline on the poster said, "Being the adventures of a young man whose principal interests are rape, ultra-violence and Beethoven." If you haven't seen A Clockwork Orange I reccomend you do so. It's one of the craziest movies I have ever seen. You could probably expect a review of it in the future. Oh yeah, I wrote a review for Clerks. You can check it out in the forums.

Just when you thought it was dead. A new Zerowing parody has sprung up on Newgrounds. This is by far one the funniest "All your base" parodies, if not the best. Go watch it right now. I love Zerowing. I can never get tired of it. And while your at Newgrounds you should check out the Numa Numa Dance.
