Hey Diddle Diddle
Hey Diddle Diddle!
The cat and the fiddle,
The cow jumped over the moon;
The little dog laughed
To see such sport,
And the dish ran away with the spoon.

Mary had a little lamb,
Its fleece was white as snow,
And everywhere that Mary went
The lamb was sure to go.

He followed her to school one day
Which was against the rules,
Made the children laugh and play
To see a lamb at school.

Ding Dong Bell
Ding, dong, bell, Pussy's in the well.
Who put her in? Little Tommy Green.
Who pulled her out? Little Tommy Stout.
What a naughty boy was that,To try to drown
poor pussy cat, Who never did him any harm,
But killed the mice in father's barn
Old King Cole was a merry old soul,
And a a merry old soul was he.
He called for his pipe and he called for his bowl
And he called for his fiddlers three.
Every fiddler had a fiddle,
A very fine fiddle had he.
Oh there's none so rare as can compare
With King Cole and his fiddlers three!

Hot cross buns! hot cross buns !
One a penny, two a penny,
Hot cross buns !
If you have no daughters
Give them to your sons;
One a penny, two a penny
Hot cross buns.

This site was created on December 16, 2001. This page was added February 15, 2003. It was last updated on February 17, 2003.

"Hey Diddle Diddle" illustration is by Diz Wallace from a book called Ragged Bear's Nursery Rhymes. Old King Cole is from The Classic Mother Goose; the graphic was done by Robyn Officer. The rest on this page are from A Treasury of Literature for Children illustrated by Hilda Offen. I meant to showcase more artists, but Gustafson doesn't illustrate Mother Goose and my favorite style seems to be whimsical but well detailed illustrations.
