Wyoming! 6/30-7/3
The nation's least densely populated state was not very promising for the majority of our 8 hour drive (about 7 through Wyoming), but when we arrived at our destination, we were all but disappointed. Special thanks to the Dolge family for being so generous to us for the time we were there (they took us white water rafting). Also to Shirley for letting us camp in her yard and sharing all of her knowledge about the area and the wilderness in general.
This is a view from the driveway of the house we stayed at...yes, those are wild bison
a couple more, even though I was promised I would see them up closer before we left, I couldn't resist
The grand silhouette
Our first night, on the way to cliff diving, we are stopped by some calves
The place where we were supposed to go cliff jumping...the mountain runoff was a little too cold. (there actually is a cliff over on the right hand side of the picture, its just a little dark)
Shirley's house looking at Teton's, Trevor and Dolgey's arm
On our trip to Yellowstone, we went through the grand Teton National Park, and about 15 seconds into the park we see a moose (the creature that has eluded us for the entire summer) just chillin in the woods
This woulda been a nice picture if I had stopped and got a little less tree, but with such a big park and so little time, we couldn't really stop
A big canyon or gorge or whatever in Yellowstone
A mystery animal...at first people were saying it was a moose, some people said elk, some said deer
A few animals, one being an elk in the distance
A wild insect
The Yellowstone river
Years of carving
Some more falls on the Yellowstone
A closer up
A better view of all the carving this river has done
Once again
All along the hike, we could see the rainbows in the mist from the waterfall, but it was difficult to get the rainbow in the same shot as the waterfall
A view from Artist's Point (a huge tourist attraction)
The most beautiful shot ever taken at Artist's Point....no?
The devastation... only you can prevent forest fires
After driving about 40 miles in Yellowstone, we arrived at the Caribbean
Geyser crater
Some little geyser erupting
The swimming pool from our apartment
I forget the name of this geyser (something like steamboat), but this one erupts like 3 to 4 times higher than Old Faithful but it only goes about every 50 days
This elk didn't mind us sharing his stream
Another one downstream
Old faithful....making thousands of people wait every day for many years
Pre-climax
While waiting, a geyser in the distance erupts
Mid eruption
Its filling the sky
Old faithful at its greatest
On the way home we were looking for a place to swim...this was a little toooo cold
The sign going from Yellowstone to Grand Teton National parks
this woulda been a nice picture if I waited until we were past this car
These next few photos were taken by Tisha, she was probably smarter to stay on land and take the pictures
There's some weird stuff on the bottom apparently
Floating down the Snake river
On the shore, trying to warm up with my buddies
After seeing many pictures of the Tetons during sunrise, we decided to get up at 5:30 to see it ourselves
Mac, before we started to freeze and before the sun hit the mountains
The whole range is hit by the rising sun
The actual Tetons
Note: I have more pictures of the sunrise, but they were more just in-betweeners of the ones I have posted
One of my favorite pictures I have ever taken
Not sure how this one ended up crooked
On the way up
Mac, getting something off of his back tooth
Us, in front of the lake in front of the saddle between the Tetons
One of the lakes half way up
a couple of tough guys
The whole hiking crew, with Mac in the shadows
A few reflections on the lake
The water up here was so clear
The 3 Tetons I believe
Runnin on down the road
Making sure I get away from the crazy Wyoming animals
Good thing they have a sign there...otherwise I might actually go near these fools
.
Look how skinny these kids are...no?
He's getting away
