Photographic Makeover - The Pick of the Portfolio PHOTOGRAPHIC MAKEOVER - THE PICK OF THE PORTFOLIO

Wednesday 17th January 2007 - 3.30 pm to 7.30 pm

Putting a bit of Boy Power into the proceedings...

On Thursday 7th December 2006 I entered an online competition for a photographic makeover at a place based in the heart of Central London, and I actually thought that I had no chance as a male of entering as my observation was only females ever seem to win these kinds of things. I also wanted to see whether males did have photographic makeovers as such things are not too apparent to me.

I was very surprised when two days later I received a telephone call from the company that organised the makeover saying that I had been chosen for the makeover and I happened to chose a date and time of Wednesday 17th January 2007 at 3.30 pm to travel down to London for the photographic makeover to take place. I could have chosen a pre-Christmas date but as the festive season was coming up I thought that it would be a bit too hectic for me, so I decide until January 2007, after Christmas. This would be poignant to me personally as in 2007 I plan to move house into a flat and this would mark the start of the changes as part of my life in this year.

I decided on an afternoon appointment so I could concentrate on travelling down to London in the morning. So I got prepared for the special occasion just before Christmas, buying various clothes from local shops as well as places where special outfits were sold. Male clothes are not as variable as female clothes of course, so I had to choose a bit more carefully there. I based my choice of clothes on those that women would find attractive on a man, such as jeans, T-shirts and even cycle shorts. After booking the National Express coach tickets and also the hotel room to stay the night in London (in case the event was to last well into the evening), I was ready for the big occasion. To be quite honest I was more excited than nervous as I had never done anything like this before.

There are a number of reasons why I decided to take part in the photographic makeover: firstly I have a minor disability which means that I have always had difficulty expressing myself over the years in a number of ways and I thought that this would improve my appearance as well as my self esteem. In fact it would give me a chance to take more notice of my appearance in future.

Secondly I am all for equal opportunities and I think that males and females should both be equal in society. Females are a lot more welcome when it comes to being in a male dominated situation than the other way round, so I decided that I would add a bit of “Boy Power” in the proceedings and be part of what happens to be, a female domain. Being a single man for a long time and also growing up into a female dominated family, I have usually been a bit jealous that only women and girls seem to have makeovers done most of the time so I decided that I should have a go and enjoy myself.

And thirdly I have always had difficulty with relationships with the opposite sex and the ones that I have had have either been very short term ones or non physical ones. I decided that if I could spend a bit of money and have a few professional photographs done of myself that make me a lot more attractive to females, then that would improve my chances of having a serious relationship with a woman, which would hopefully lead to falling in love, getting engaged, getting married, starting a family and so on. Despite the high price, I feel that it is well worth a risk to take.

All three reasons combined I feel that I have done the right thing, which could possibly have a positive effect on my future. I might do something like this again sometime in the future and hopefully I may get paid for doing it. Ironically one of things that I enjoy doing is photography, so this has proved that I am quite useful on both sides of the camera!

The twelve images below have been chosen as my favourites from the 92 that were taken on the day. Here it is - something that I am personally proud of. Just enjoy looking around the pages of this website!

Please note that the original quality of the images were a lot greater than the ones below, but the size of an average image was about 2 MB, which was too much to upload onto the website. Because of this I had to decrease the size of the images below to an average of 20 KB and that means that they are slightly more blurry than the original images. In addition the pictures have also been made smaller in size to accommodate the loss of pixels from the original images. Hopefully despite the slight blurriness this shouldn't put you off the enjoyment of the pictures!

A special thank you go to the staff at Skylite Studios in Central London for all the work they have done into making the photographic makeover possible.
