Issued to motorists who received the Purple Heart, a military medal awarded to individuals who were wounded in combat. Concerning Purple Heart plates, the state's website makes the comment that "qualified applicants may obtain one set of plates without paying specific ownership tax and license fees." Although that sentence makes no acutal sense, I interpret it to mean that motorists receiving Purple Heart plates don't pay car tax. What a way to honour our veterans! Additional Purple Heart plates can be obtained by medal winners for $25 each, plus the required fees and taxes. At bottom is a blown up version of the central logo.
