:: Backlash Predictions

Welcome to the Backlash Predictions at Wrestling Envy. Below you will find the views that Wrestling Envy staff feel with regards to Backlash.

Chris Lewis (Webmaster)

As with my Wrestlemania predictions I will keep them short and sweet because I don't want them to drag on - plus I'm busy with other parts of the site at the moment anyway. Here I go..

Three Championship Match (Heavyweight, Intercontinental and Tag Titles)
Stone Cold & Triple H vs. Undertaker & Kane

I don't see this match-up ending as a canditate for match of the year but I'm sure all 4 performers will put on a good display. The match will obviously be dominated by the heel team for the majority, but I see the brothers of destruction come to a close victory. The end of the match will come by cheating in some way by Austin/HHH - probably via a chair shot blind to the referee - picking up the win for the Rattlesnake and The Game.
Winners: Triple H & Stone Cold Steve Austin

Last Man Standing Match
Shane McMahon vs. Big Show

Crazy bump alert! Crazy bump alert! This looks to obvious to be a total squash which is why I can see Shane winning this one. Shane will obviously be thrown about for some big bumps through tables, off titantrons and pretty much anything really. The entertainment level will rise for this match indefinitely. I TOTALLY agree with Gary on this one - whereby Vince comes down to the ring to try and help Big Show, but Booker T saving the day for Shane and getting him the victory.
Winner: Shane McMahon

30 minute Ultimate Submission Match
Kurt Angle vs. Chris Benoit

The winner of this bout has got to be Benoit because then that would make it 1-1 between the two, after there match at Wrestlemania 17 also. This match would set up another match after Backlash nicely, before both competitors finally come to blows over who is better.
Winner: Chris Benoit

Dutchess of Queensbury Match
William Regal vs. Chris Jericho

I'm still unsure what a Queensbury rules match is. We saw on Smackdown that both men have to have their submission on one man - but how is that going to work with a one on one situation. It doesn't really matter, because Regal will change the rules when Jericho "wins" so there's only one winner for me.
Winner: William Regal

European Championship Match
Eddie Guerrero vs. Christian vs. Matt Hardy

I know that Eddie Guerrero won't retain his title in this one. Depending on who out of Edge and Jeff Hardy gets the big push soon, will decide this one. If it's Edge for the push, then Christian will win the European belt and go solo - the Hardyz staying as a tag team. If it's Jeff for the big push, then it's vice versa. As I'm banking on Jeff, the winner will be Matt.
Winner: Matt Hardy

Six Man Tag Match
Spike & Dudley Boyz vs. X-Factor

This is probably a good bet to be the opener for Backlash and a straight forward win for X-Factor. The only reason I say this is to even out the number of face wins to heel wins on the night.
Winner: X-Factor

Hardcore Championship Match
Raven vs. Rhyno

Hopefully we'll see another great Hardcore match up to the standard of Wrestlemania's match. A straight forward win for Rhyno in this one - probably via a GORE through a table or something more spectacular.
Winner: Rhyno

Gary Griffiths (Columnist)

I would just like to mention before I start my predictions my success as a PPV precicted..At WrestleMania not only did i predict more than 60% of the matches correctly..I also told all you fans the exact outcome of the main event. Now is that reliable or not, so folks believe me, if theres any precitions that you should read its mine....Cuz i am usually right....anyay without further adue....Here I go.

Steve Austin & HHH vs Undertaker & Kane (WWF Title, IC Title, and Tag Titles)

Yaaaaaaaaawwwwwwnnnnnnn..........Unless soimething incredible happens...this match is never gonna be a corker. Kane and Taker are quite slow, SCSA isnt the best "wrestler" in the wolrd......and Triple H...well let's just say The Game will have to be that damn good to save this one.
Anyway on the result. Ive been lookin at this match 3 ways.

1> I cant see SCSA losing his title so early into the reign.

2> I really dont see any realistic chance of Triple H jobbing, although ill give credit too O'l Roman nose, he has been jobbing more and more lately...but then theres the fact that if WWF only provide an IC Title change in the main event, the fans aren't gonna be too pleased.

3> If Trip' and SCSA win the Tag Titles then they own all belts in the Fed, and I cant see the fans being happy with that, because I, as a fan sure as hell wouldnt be. The only way this would work would be if they dropped them the next night on Raw.
So if we take all these things into account you start to realise the mess Vinnnie and Co have gotten themselvs into with this one.

So to me they have to do something big to make the PPV seem successful......Maybe the return of somone big?

The Rock maybe?

HBK maybe? (Well, we can only hope for this one)

Debra??? Don't count out a screw job from her here....Maybe turning against SCSA, or turning heel and screwing the Dastardly Duo of Kane and Taker.

Too be honest I see this match as being a No Contest due to outside interfearence. But sorry folks, I am not certain who from.
Winner: No Contest

Chris Benoit vs Kurt Angle (30-minute submission match)

Ohhhh I really can't wait for this one.....It'll either be the greatest match ever, or a major disapointment. Id go with the first one. I seee this as being a shortened better version of the Bret Hart - HBK classic. I think Angle will put Benoit over, as the Wolverine has never had much success on PPV, and sure as hell deserves some.
Winner: Chris Benoit

William Regal vs Chris Jericho (Duchess of Queensberry Rules)

These two men will be out to better there poor displays at WrestleMania X-seven. And I think they will, should be a strong match, with Jericho as the victor. I think Y2J will win becuase he NEEDS a push, and to do that I think some big PPV wins is needed.
Winner: Chris Jericho

Shane McMahon vs The Big Show (Last Man Standing)

Should be a good match, I think Vince will come down the ring to help Show, then a WCW Wrestler....Maybe Booker T or Steiner will come out to help Shane.
Winner: Shane McMahon

Matt Hardy vs. Christian vs. Eddy Guerrero (European Title)

Mmmmmmmm, I wonder how much of a part Jeff anf Edge will play in this match helping there respective partners. Im a bit stumped on who will win this one to be honest, the cotnestants in it are quite unusual for PPV really, but If I had to go with one person, It'd probably be Eddy.....Myabe after Edge or Jeff turn heel on there partner.
Winner: Eddie Guerrero

Rhyno vs Raven (Hardcore Title)

Im really looking forward to this one. I lovve Rhyno's in ring work, and Raven is also one of my favourites, so look for a Great ECE style display. Myabe Tajiri or Jerry Lynn will play a part in it, you never know really. Id say somone other than the contestants in this match will win it, letting Raven and Rhyno get a push.
Winner: NOT Rhyno or Raven

Bubba, D-Von & Spike Dudley vs Albert, Justin Credible & X-Pac

Mmmmmmmm, not sure about this one, has potential, but I doubt it'll deliver. I think that the Dudelyz will probably win, but I really dont care how.
Winners: Dudley Boyz

Well that wraps up another months precictions......See ya in the funny papers...

  • Thanks for reading, and I and all the Wrestling Envy staff wish you a happy Wrestlemania.
