According to reports across the internet released today, a new deal will be finalized between Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI) and Apple Computer Inc. to include new components within Sony's upcoming add-on; the PS2 HDD.
It seems that in light of these events, the PS2 HDD may be heading into a permanent name change, to be known as the "PortoMac". So what in the world is a "PortoMac"? Well.. it sounds no stranger than Sony's "Popegg" printer. Apple is expected to integrate a new operating system into the PortoMac unit, specifically designed for handling the online interface along with managing the hard drive.
Ironically, it seems that this story has been flying around for months within our very own forums. We decided to hold off on reporting such a story until we received concrete evidence that Apple would indeed be involved in the hard drive's creation. Imagine our surprise when we received new details today in regards to the name change and this new partnership between the two firms.
Specifications for the operating system are expected to be released in the near future. It is rumored that the operating system could be based entirely off of Apple's upcoming Mac OS X system. We will provide you with more details as they become available.
