Idea of the University

Honors Final Project

Mission statement - The University of Antarctica shall be formed on the premise that all people, given the chance, can become constructive members of society. It will afford the opportunity for any person who wants to attend to do so at a relatively low cost. No creed, race, gender, nationality, or other prejudice shall be used in determining who comes here. The only requirement is that you have a high school education and come to learn. The expectations of each student will be high, but only in relation to their starting point. Success will be measured by improvement, not intellect. The university will strive to provide any amenities students may require to immerse themselves in their education. The setting will be the perfect place for people to escape the pressures of their normal environment and focus solely on their studies. There will be the normal academic, social, athletic, leadership, environmental, and artistic facilities and activities; such as libraries, clubs, sports, student government, parks, and a concert hall, etc… While here, students should learn responsible time management evolve an appreciation for lifelong learning. First year students will be required to pass a technology literacy test in order to move past their initial liberal education. If they don’t pass they can take classes in technology until they do. There will also be opportunities for research, with specializations in the Antarctic climate and the ozone hole. All professors will be required to teach and must arrive in person and teach at least half of them. The university will not be isolated, as it will be connected to other universities throughout the world via current technology and its own private airstrip. The university will hold above all its mission to teach everyone who seeks knowledge in a way most beneficial to both student, university, and, after graduation, society.

How to make the most of your time in the university - You have to realize that you’re here to learn. That can be through experiences or through the classroom. There are lots of opportunities to try out different lifestyles and ways of making the most of your days. You can either be a huge partier or a person who sits and studies all the time or a hybrid of the two. The best thing to do is strike a balance so you don’t end up leaving with knowing anything about your area of study or without knowing how to interact with people and make it on your own. The university provides a relatively safe place from which to branch out and sample everything society has to offer that interests you. If you like what you find you can leave the university and follow a new path, but if you don’t like it, you can come back the university to think about what you want to try next. The university is here to help you teach yourself how to live after your formal education is over.
