Life Changers

The ____ That Changed My Life

In elementary school I had no worries. I didn't care what I looked like or how I acted. I only cared about how many baseball cards I had and my friends. Then middle school came around and I got humbled. First off I had to sit in the front row on the bus where the kid behind me was always pestering me and trying to feel cool by picking on me. I eventually realized that ignoring him wouldn't work but I was too scared to fight back because he was a seventh grader and I was a sixth grader. So I became scared of talking because people might not like me so that's why I'm quiet.

In sixth grade again. I discovered the wonders of music when I picked up trombone second quarter. Wade Bailey taught me the notes and positions which he had learned the previous quarter. This was the first musical activity I had chosen to do (since my mom tried to teach me piano before) and it was fun. I learned to appreciate classical music and to understand rock and roll even better. I eventually picked up a guitar and I am still teaching myself now with the knowledge I gained from trombone.

Another pivotal event was my first appreciation of the powder day. It was in seventh grade and it was a Wednesday - which was skiing day at the Charter School. In previous years I had never been able to ski well in powder, so I didn't like it. But that day it was an early, sunny day with first tracks on champagne powder over bumps. I just went down and floated over the bumps and bounced slightly on each one and it was then I began to live for the powder day.
