This is a series of books by Kim Stanley Robinson about the colonization of Mars. It spans a couple of centuries from the present to the 2200's. These books are "grand in scope and meticulous in detail" as one reviewer puts it. The scope truly is vast with the veiw spreading from contest between people to be in the First Hundred to fly there, to world-wide revolution, to cross-planet wars, to colonization of the rest of the solar system, to travel between stars. The attention to detail can get a bit tedious as he will describe the ocean for pages or relate a new medical miracle in scientific mumbo-jumbo that's way over my head. This series can get a bit boring, but overall it will keep you reading. 4 of 5.
