The Native Son, by Richard Wright, was assigned for AP English Lit. It's a story about Bigger Thomas and his battle with himself and the white world. It was a good book because there was a lot of exploration into Bigger's mind and the psychological effects of isolation and segregation. The action was also well-paced to keep me reading. The only downside was the portion at the end of the book where two lawyers make speeches that go on forever. 4 of 5.
