The X Series
I bought Earth X on a whim in an airport in Maryland because I hadn't read a comic book in a long time and it looked cool. Thank god I did that because I opened up the book and then couldn't put it down the entire day. It was so good the airplane rides seemed to go by too fast. It's a story that attempts to tie together all the characters of the Marvel Comics universe. Even though I knew none of the back-stories of most of the characters, I was able to follow the action and understand what was happening - and there was some freaking cool stuff happening. The dark artwork made it so much better. I don't know how much comic gurus might like this (I imagine some will and some won't, just like always), I found it to be the greatest comic book I've ever read. Naturally I bought Universe X 1 and 2 as soon as I could, and though they had a different, lighter style of artwork, I devoured them without disappointment. I believe a Paradise X is in the making and I'm really looking forward to those book(s). 5 of 5 stars
