The two sat staring. It had been a long time since either had spoken to anyone, even each other. And not long as in minutes or hours. It had been years, almost a full decade. Both parties were content to sit day-by-day and say nothing.
It had been a good life; a long one but good none the less. The sun, even if it WAS artificially generated, had almost always shined brightly. Three meals a day, treats, and sometimes an extra meal or two a day came their way. It was good to be able to sit around, doing a trick every now and then for a nice, although mysterious, boy and get rewarded handsomely for it, although both knew that the future held greater things than almost anyone alive ever dreamed of. And so the days passed, neither saying anything to the other. Until now.
“A war is coming,” one said to the other casually.
The other nearly jumped from shock, but quickly slid back into their normal attitude. “It’s been a while, hasn’t it,” the second teased. “But just incase you didn’t notice, the war has been OVER ten months now,” they said sarcastically.
The speaker gave their companion a ‘You-Know-What-I-Mean-You-Jerk’ look and said, “Not THAT war. An evil force is coming.”
“I know. I was just messing with ya.” The second sat for a moment, looking thoughtfully at the ground. “But you’re right. It’s been coming for a while now. We need them again don’t we?” A regretfully silence was the only response. “But how do we…” the second began, interrupted by the appearance of a young, funny-haired boy carrying a plate of steaks.
“Time for dinner,” he said contently as he walked up to the two. That's a tone that he only ever used with that child with golden locks, the first speaker thought absently. Then suddenly, something washed over the first speaker.
The second made a swipe for the steaks, only to have them pulled away at the last second. “Calm down! You’ll get your meal soon enough,” The boy said. The second speaker immediately sedated. The first speaker however, could only stare with sudden realization at the young boy.
The boy patted both parties on the head and walked off quietly. The second speaker sat trying to shove an entire stake into their mouth as the first snapped back into reality and then looked in disgust at their companion.
“You are such a push-over. You know that right?”
“So I love to eat. Is there a problem with it?”
“You could almost contend with HER, ya know.”
“NO ONE could eat as much as she did…”
“I remember. I had to deal with that AND train her at the same time!” The first fell into a reflective silence that quickly turned sad. “We need to find them again. I hate to break their happiness though…”
“The events of the future must come to pass. But how ARE we going to find them? Only one person can remember anything of what has come to pass, and Gods know we’ll never find HER.”
“She probably knows what’s starting. But you know that she can’t directly interfere until her time has come. And magic is practically dead on Earth. You don’t think that the future has been changed, do you?”
“I doubt it. The present would be different, I would think.” A long pause followed. “But we have to find them. How are we going to bring back the Sailor Senshi, Luna?”
“I don’t know Artemis. But that boy, Trowa, he’s a big part of this,” Luna said, adding something to her voice that signified the end of this conversation. She picked up a steak and the two lions ate in silence.
