LONG AGO

LIFE

The old school house on the plains

Out on the plains as they knew life long ago,
There was an old school house, not like the ones we know.
In it, were all the grades, eight to one.
And most of the time the teacher was very young.
They had to walk many miles to get there.
The hardships were bad, but they didn't care.
A strong and sturdy band were they,
Not like the soft people of today.

The sunset of their life

Some are gone now, but some are still here.
Those are the folks I hold so dear.
Their days are numbered and hard to bare.
I hope you all take good care of them there.
So as the sun sets down on their life,
And the bed is cold for the husband or wife,
To them, be kind, gentle and true.
Like someday, I hope someone will be to you!
