~When to Call Your Doula~

The following are reasons you should call your doula. If there is something you think should be on this list, please call me!

You may call me ANYTIME you have questions or concerns about your pregnancy or labor. If I cannot answer you, I will have a way to find out what you need to know.

If you have any questions about my services.

If you are unsure what you are feeling is normal.

If you want to schedule another pre-natal visit with me.

If you want to work on your birth plan, or make changes to it. It is very important that I know of any changes you want to make. If I am putting it together for you, I will print out a brand new one with the changes on it for you.

If you think you might be in labor but are not sure. I can help you decide if you truly are so you do not go to the hospital and then get sent home again. Note that going to the hospital when you are having contractions, even 5 minutes apart, does not always garauntee that you will be staying, often you are sent home, unless you are extrememly uncomfortable.

If you are having 5 or more contractions an hour.

If you are bleeding, please call your care-giver first, but let me know as soon as you can about what is going on. It is normal to have some spotting the last 2 weeks of your pregnancy, this will be brownish more than red. If you are having enough bleeding to soak a pad in an hour you need to call your care-giver right away. (If you want me to, I will come and be with you even if you are not in labor or if there is something threatening your pregnancy)

If you feel like you are losing bladder control. (Your underwear are always wet, and/or when you sit to go to the bathroom you leak without trying to go to the bathroom)

You feel a gush or leaking of fluid. (IMPORTANT-You must call your doctor immediately if your fluid looks greenish or brownish, this is dangerous for your baby) If your fluid is clear, or slightly pink do not worry, it is normal for your water to break. You can continue to wait for contractions and/or time the one's you are already having until you feel too uncomfortable to be at home. If more than a few hours pass and you are still feeling able to stay at home, at least call your care-giver and let him/her know that your water has broken. They may want to have you come in and get monitored and possibly begin the labor for you if you are not having any contractions.

If you are feeling down and just need to talk-CALL ME! I love what I do and you are not bothering me. It is important for you to feel comfortable with me. If you just want to talk to get to know me a little better that is perfectly fine!
