Help With Birth Plans

Helpful links to sites with tips and format ideas
for creating your birth plan.

Should I Write A Birth Plan?

A birth plan is something that can be helpful to one person, and not helpful to another. If you can easily understand that your plan is not carved in stone, and that it will be subject to the stability of you and your baby during labor, then a birth plan would probably be helpful for you.

You have to honestly ask yourself, if writing a birth plan
will get your mind so set on what you are "planning",
that if it can not happen that way, will you have
a hard time making necessary changes at that time?

What Is The Purpose Of A Birth Plan?

My views on this issue are very similar to those of Tracey Hartley's on her website, I prefer to send you there for the answer to this question. See the first link below.

Before you work on your birth plan, go to this site first! This is one of my all time favorite doula sites. The wonderful Tracey Hartley, who has been a doula for over 12 years is the creator of this awesome site. You'll find a lot more information that will benefit you while you're there!

This site has a "fill out" form where you check off the things you do and do not want for your labor. Once you have marked the items that are important to you, it is printable so you can have a copy immediately. You can use use this as your official birth plan, and take it to a copier for extras to give to your care-giver and nurses at the hospital.

This one is similar to the one at Baby Center. Check them both out to compare.

**I am more than happy to help you with a custom birth plan if you are unhappy with those listed above. If you like the suggestions on Tracey's website, I will gladly help you with that as well!
