One from my files, Close match to Verda's

Part of what is listed on my copy is as follows, it also matches Verda's quite closely

The Skaggs Coat of Arms was drawn by a heraldic artist from information officially recorded in ancient heraldic archives. Documentation for the Skaggs Coat of Arms design can be found in Burke’s General Armory. Heraldic artists of old developed their own unique language to describe an individuals Coat of Arms. In their language, the Arms (Shield) is as follows:

"Per fess or and azure a chevron counterchanged, in chief a lion passant guardant of the second."

Above the shield and helmet is the Crest which is described as:

A demi-peacock azure wings expanded or, beaked and combed or, " When translated the blazon also discribes the original colors of the Skaggs Arms and Crest as it appeared centuries ago.
Family mottoes are believed to have originated as battle cries in medieval times. A motto was not recorded with the Scaggs Coat of Arms.
Individual surnames originated for the purpose of more specific identification. The four primary sources for second names were: occupation, location, father’s name and personnel characteristics. The surname Skaggs appears to be characteristic in origin, and is believed to be associated with the English, meaning "one who had an unusually long beard." .
