The Truth about Women in the 40K World
May 13 2001

The real truth about the women in the 40K world is that they are really nothing but an example of GW's truly chauvinistic nature. All of the women, case in point, the sisters, for them to be a truly powerful army they have to be backed up/lead my men. Example, I was talking to Quasi about his sisters last night and he said and I quote "If I want a big power, I'll just take an Inquisitor.". Now what are the inquisitors, in retrospect, just crazy, ugly old men. Now I've been told that there are suppose to be female inquisitors, etc. but do you see any? No!... When was the last time you saw an inquisitor with breasts? I'd have to say never. Not to mention the fact that there are strong female Characters out there, but most of them don't have models, therefore you can't use them. I can only count three in my head that have models, Lilith Hesperax, Kruella the Vile, and Jain Zar, all of these are eldar/dark eldar. How ever, the dark eldar are the only army that seem to not care about sects too much. Lilith is a wych yes, but Kruella isn't. There is also a female Lord, a female haemonculi, there are female Incubi, etc. What do the Eldar have a female sect with a female leader. There is in the craft world/regular Codex a yet unmodeled female Farseer, she is actually a very cool char one that I would like to include in my Angels of Khaine, but theres no model for her. And I'm sure there are those of you out there that are saying just model one myself.... Have you ever tried modeling breasts on to a farseer or warlock's chest? The have robes and ornate talismans of wraithbone cover those key areas where a pair of breasts would have to go. I can honestly say that I am not yet that skilled to pull off something like that, plus it's insane for me to have to spend many frustrating hours trying to do something that GW should have already done in the name of equality. Continuing with the eldar, the only other females they have are like four female torsos that come with the guardians boxed sets, now there might be female torsos in the new plastic dire avengers, but I'm not touching those with a ten foot pole(I personally prefer the metal ones and yes I will take the lengthy time to give them breasts). But other than those plastic torsos, and the banshees, there are no other female models in the whole Eldar army. Now for the Sisters.... The soon to be oop Sisters of Battle codex has quite a few actual characters that GW never made models for. Some of these are really, really cool characters like that Farseer char I mentioned before. What's the problem? Now form what I've seen of the new codex those characters are gone.... Why? They were neat. GW has made the sisters in to a army that can't really function with out men. Why are these women so lacking in the area of charisma that they don't have their own characters? I say the only reason is that GW must not really want the business of female players. Perhaps they want to make it impossible for you guys out there to get or keep your girlfriends/spouses interested in the hobby. Or maybe GW just truly thinks that women need a man to direct them, to make them strong or worth while. Well here's one woman that has a big kick in the nuts for GW.

Some quick Rules/Suggestions for taking your Partner to Tournaments
These apply if your girlfriend/spouse isn't playing or has no interest in what you're doing;
April 15 2001

1.Get her/him(you never know) to bring something to do with them. A book, a drawing book, a magazine, cards, etc. As long as she/he has something to do they won't bother you as much.

2.If your in a mall tell her/him to go shopping and meet you at the hobby shop at an appointed time. If she's/he's really not interested in sticking around let her/him go off on her/his own for a while..

3.Bring money... Giving her/him money(incase they have none) allows them to do actual shopping and not just window shopping. Also having money allows you to buy your partner food if they want to stick around. Or it always helps to buy them a treat afterwards, or who knows they might even find a model they like..

4.If he/she do stick around and they are bothering you don't snap at them.... I repeat do NOT snap at them. The last thing you want is an arguement, it's one that you'd lose because you're the one that snapped at them. Calmly let them know what they're doing and how it's not nice(this would be a good time to institute #2).

5.Before you chastise you partner take into consideration how he/she has been feeling. Have they been sick, do they have a headache, are they just feeling really irritable or upset. Even a "nice" chastisement can be taken badly if your partner isn't feeling well/happy..

6.If you win celebrate for a little bit, but don't talk about it for the next week. If your partner was accomadating and sat with you through the whole thing then you're really just going to annoy the piss out of him/her, this will eventually lead to the "all you ever talk about is warhammer" arguement. Which again you will lose because you have been.... It's true because if it keeps going it will lead to the "you like warhammer more than me" arguement, which with some people leads to some serious crying(as soon as there's crying, you're done for)..

Truthfully there really are no "real" rules for taking an uninterested partner to a tournie, each relationship's different. In these cases I am speaking from my point of view, if I were not interested in the game at all. As for #6 this is true even if the partner is interested it's annoying to hear about you guys winning over and over, especially if we saw all the details or if we played and lost to you. Discussing said event a few times is fine but not as a constant conversation topic..

BTW, this in no way reflects the conduct of Quasi

"Why Marines?"
April 8 2001
This, my readers, is my question, my query... Why always Space Marines? No matter how unfinished another army is, or whether they've been promising new models for something, there always seems to be new things for Space marines... Why? How many different chapters are there now? How many space marine codexes? I myself can't understand why that's been happening, the Necrons have been sitting unfinished for how long now, and yet still more marines. Chaos is guilty of this too... In the last few issues of White dwarf there have been two new kinds of Chaos marines pop up. The Emperor's Children and now the Iron Marines. Why?... Apparently the children are part of 40K history, but why the Iron? Are space marines really that popluar that GW will put aside unfinished/promised work just to put out new marine stuff. I really don't mean to insult any Marine players, but I'm getting pretty sick of opening up the White Dwarf only to see more marines. I have enough problems hearing about them from almost all of the players I've encountered at stores(again not meaning to insult anyone). It's kinda like hearing a song played on the radio too many times, you get sick of it, then you can't stand to hear it. To tell you guys the truth, I think space marine palyers would have a harder time of winning my respect than any other players. Not meaning to insult but it's true, I see and hear too much about them, I've also been told by some who have switched that the marines are beyond easy to use. They don't seem to have any faults.... Good with weapons and then they have their armour saves for close combat, who's not going to have a hard time beating that? Almost every army seems to have it's disabilites, except for the marines. I don't know, GW could be playing favourites or the marines could just be the only army that is well rounded period.

All I know is that wherever I look/read I see marines. Nothing but space marines. It may just be me but I just can't help wonder "Why Marines?"

"Finally Some Progress"
March 26 2001
Well it's finally happened, all of the bitching and whining has paid off and Gw's listened... I was just recently told by Quasi upon receiving the new White Dwarf that the Games Day Rules have changed. Now before I go any further I'll tell you first my experiences at GW contests;

Almost every single time, except for the last one, when I've gone to a painting contest I've lost.... Lost to something that was a cartoony looking thing(crappy looking really), and it didn't even follow any of the rules that had been put in place by the GW store, but it was on a huge friggin base with like two to five other models with it, so.... it won... This is not only my experience but Quasi's too, so it's just cause of me. To sum this up, we've been losing to bases, not the models really but the bases.

Which brings me back to the Games Day rules. Apparently they've gotten very strict when it comes to the base thing. Single models may only be on the 25mm legal sized base, they can't be built up to be taller either. As for duels, or armies, or tanks/dreads/monsters, there are very specific base sizes that must be applied. Now I haven't read the list of rules myself yet, Quasi kinda took the White Dwarf home(I forgot to read it before too), but what I have just stated is what Quasi told me when we started talking about Games Day(he was warning me against a big base idea I had).

Thus the day of the Base hath ended. Justice prevails! HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!!! *evil laughter* No longer will you base bastards beat me!!! HA HA HA HA Ha ha... er.... um.... oops went a little too far there, oh well you guys know I'm nuts. I was just kidding about the "base bastard" thing.... ya...kidding ; )

DOES GW REALLY CARE?
March 21 2001
I've begun to notice(not really sort of always known) the GW couldn't care less about the needs of the customers, they'll do whatever the 'suits' of the company tell them. Case in point about a week ago I was trying to find a character model, Isabella von Carstien to be exact, which I needed for a conversion, I couldn't find her any where. I looked in four different stores(one of which was a GW store) but no luck. It turns out that because GW is re-doing the Vampire Counts army they recalled any and all of the Vampire special characters. Why recall them, they couldn' wait for the stores to sell what they had, no they recalled the lot of them? Why did they have to do that? I can understand not putting anymore out till they're done with the army, but recalling them....?

Another case in which GW couldn't care less about the needs of the customer is the situation(the only other one that I have direct knowledge of), is the re-releasing of the Eldar Harlequin collection. By re-releasing that line of minis that screwed of a lot of wouldbe collectors, me being one of them. Quasi went through alot to get the harlequin collection I have now for me, I have two of one of the models that WAS worth quite a bit a of money. Now more whole collection isn't really worth diddly. Does anyone really know why they re-released the Harlequins? I was told by a GW employee that they scraped the idea of a Harlequin army a while ago, so why release the line again. It's like bringing Babe Ruth back from the dead so he can sign hundreds of balls, it just ruins collectors. What's up next, taking over poor armourcast and putting the Titans out again? Sure good for the company, but bad for the people that paid an inflated price just to be able to own something not many people have.

GW CAN'T PLEASE A WOMAN
March 17 2001
I myslef am one of the very few women that make up the warhammer World's small population of females. In my personal oppinion there aren't really any armies that would suit a woman, well maybe the Brittonians, but that's only because it is at the moment the only army that has 'pretty' female models. That brings me to the precise topic of this article; other than the those female brittonians/new dark elves/Lilith Hesperax, there are no respectable female models in the entire warhammer universe. My most loathed model is the Nefereta model, that 'thing' is a plastic surgery nightmare, the only thing good about her is the cat(Bastet) that she comes with. Oh and if any of you people are thinking ,"What about the Sisters?", guess again. Those models are nothing more than space marines with wigs.

Point is that what would get more women playing is models that look like women, not some ugly mugged dude with breasts. Gw would get more women players if they'd drop the idea, "Ugly is easier"(direct quote). One question... Easier for who? Them? I hope not or how will they survive when they only care for themselves and not the customers.

(Editor's Note: GW has since come out with some lovely Lahmians, and the sisters of battle ain't all bad :) )

I think I will read the other articles too!
