++++Slag Heap Hill Set++++

Good day, all. The item of terrain I am reviewing this time around is called the "Slag Heap Set" available from Necropolis Terrain. It is in the basic hills section of the website. Retailing for $12.00 US plus shipping, you get a set of 8 hills of various sizes. Mine ranged from (length x width x height in inches) 5x2x1 to 12x4x2. Those are approximate sizes.

As you can see from the pictures, the hills are based black and drybrushed to shades of grey with some vegetation (AKA flock) very firmly glued to them. They are, of course, quite light and also very durable. For game purposes, they would do well as part of a asteroid moon setting or perhaps a post-orbital-bombardment setting. How do I know? Glad you asked. The following tests were performed on the various hills by me at my house:

1. Smack-off-the-table test. I placed the hill on my kitchen table and smacked it off with my hand. It landed on the floor undamaged, approximately a 36 inch vertical drop.

2. Drop-a-gravtank-on-it test. Self-explanatory. I just took one of the Eldar grav tanks in my collection and dropped it on the piece from a height of 4 inches. Luckily for all concerned, both items were undamaged.

3. The dreaded PUPPY test. I left a piece on the floor for my dog Corbin, sometimes nicknamed the Great Devourer, to examine. I wanted to see whether or not it was interesting enough for him to try and eat. He did not. He merely sniffed it a few times and went on chewing his squeakytoy. I must add here that this does NOT mean all dogs will find these hills uninteresting, and it does NOT give you an excuse to be lazy and leave your things out where they could be eaten.

4. I tried to scrape the paint off by rubbing my fingers against the surface. I didn't make much headway in the 30 seconds I had allotted for the task. If I'd used my fingernails, that would have worked much better but I am testing these items against CASUAL accidents, not acts of malice.

As far as shipping goes: It took a long while for the hill set to be shipped, due to an unfortunate accident suffered by the gentleman that runs Necropolis. No, I will not tell you what it was. Ask him. Once the item was shipped it arrived via USPS priority mail. For some reason, the post office decided the box had to die, because that sucker was mashed FLAT. However, the hills were very adeptly packaged and suffered no damage from the Post Office's ire. Perhaps they've had experience with disgruntled Postal workers before? Would I recommend this item? Yes I would. It's very economical and durable.
