Follies are taking place at a get-together for old ballet dancers and showgirls. It's shows the contrast between the life these dancers thought they were living 30 years ago, and the real life as they live it now. The audience sees this throught four people; upper-class Phyllis and Ben, and the middle-class couple Sally and Buddy. Sondheim uses a lot of flashbacks in to tell the story.
