The show's based on 30 hours of recorded conversations between Michael Bennett and 24 young New York dancers. It tells the story of 18 dancers, auditioning for eight parts in a chorus line. One by one, they introduce themselves to the director, Zack. They tell him about their lives, families, work, problems and sorrows.
