Touji Suzuhara is the fouth child to be selected by the Marduk Institute to be the pilot of EVA-03. He was Shinji's friend at school. He has a younger sister who was injured in the battle between EVA-01 and the 3rd Angel, Sachiel. The only reason Touji became the pilot of EVA-03 was because he wanted his sister to be sent to the NERV General Hospital for better treatment. During his first Activation Experiment in the underground laboratory in Matsushita, the Angel inside of EVA-03 broke free of it's restraints and took over EVA-03. NERV then reclassifed EVA-03 as the 13th Angel, Bardiel. Touji was nearly killed in the battle between the EVA-03 and EVA-01. Fortunately, EVA-01 did not crush Touji. He did, however, lose an arm and a leg due to the injuries recieved from this incident.
