Locality - Pacific slope of Guatamela and Costa Rica as well as the Atlantic slopes of Honduras and Panama … found from the streams to the shallows of fast flowing rivers... prefers rocky cover along the banks

Temperature (in F) - 74-86F (80-84F for breeding)
Max size (in inches) - 3-5"
Minimum tank size - at least 30g
Sociability - Depends on fish ... Some are semi-friendly, while others are really aggressive
Breeding - Egglayer ... Fish will form strong pair bonds ... convicts start at a very early age (one inch is common) and are quite prolific... i keep a pair of regular convicts in a 10g just to provide feeder fry for my other cichlids
Temperament - Same as sociability
Comments – Red points are supposed to be one of the more colorful color variants
Personal Experience - I purchased 5 juveniles at the CNYAS syracuse auction (10-15-2000) and currently have them growing out in a 10G awaiting pair formations ... i also have a female gambusino in there with them to supply occasional live food in the form of fry
