Welcome
There are times when our strength seems to be strong- and other times when it is overwhelming to us.  The times when we cope with situations we never dreamed of being in, much less being able to cope.  How do we find that strength when we need it?
And just exactly what is it?
Join me in a search through the scriptures and see what we can find!
~~~~~~~~
We will check out a few passages only, just to get some sort of idea what God intended for this "strength."
God is our strength
Any time we look for anyone or anything else to be our strength, we will find ourselves lacking the resources we need.
Are you facing a difficulty that is so overwhelming that you see no way out?
 Are you worried about some situation that seems to have no solution?
Are you looking for help in all the wrong places?
Are people letting you down?
Are you finances out of your control?
Is your health causing you to face the future with fear?
Are loved ones heading for danger- either physically or spiritually, and you feel helpless to stop them?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As you read through the passages below, think of what is being said in each verse.
What is "strength?"
Where does it come from?
What happens when we have this "strength?"
What happens when we lack it?
What lets you know when you have it?
How do you get it?

Father, I pray that each verse will speak to those seeking your strength  in a personal way.  I pray that you will grant to them the strength they need and that they will know without a doubt that you are their strength and their salvation.  I pray for your joy to become their strength! Amen

As I read through just these few verses, this is what I was able to apply to my life.  I hope you will be able to do the same---

1. Exodus 15:2

The LORD is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation.
    He is my God, and I will praise him, my father's God, and I will exalt him.

The Lord is my strength.  And as such, He puts a song in me--part of His giving me strength, is putting a song in my heart. When He becomes my God, when I chose Him, He saves me, and that causes me to praise Him.  I understand what it means to exalt Him.  As I praise Him,  focus on Him, worship Him, His strength sustains me.  No problem can overwhelm me.  No situation is more than He can handle.

2. Exodus 15:13
  In you unfailing love you will lead the people you have redeemed. In your strength you  will guide them to your holy dwelling
God, because of His love for us, will lead us where we need to go.  He already has the answer to our problems.  He already knows the outcome.  Wherever He takes us, we are promised that His presence is with us--and it is a holy place because of that.  So, no matter what problem you are facing, and no matter how horrible the atmosphere, He will be by you, and where you are is holy.  Nothing that is happening to you nor anything that will happen to you, can change His love for you.

3 .Deut 4 : 37-38
Because he loved your forefathers and chose their descendants after them, he brought you out of Egypt by his Presence and his great strength, to drive out before you nations greater and stronger than you and to bring you into their land to give it to you for your inheritance, as it is today.
God brings His people out of their "captivity" by His strength.  That includes addictions, behaviors, abuse, illnesses, etc.  Not only will He deliver you from them, he will drive away any further weapons of the enemy (satan).  He can and will destroy the things stronger than you in this world that threaten to overcome, control  and destroy you.

4. Deut 6:5
Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.

What God requires of us and what strength we have, is to love Him. Not to love Him with half of it and save the rest to fight our battles.  But to love Him with ALL of our strength as well as all of our heart and soul.  That says to me that He doesn't need, nor want,  my strength to help Him fight my battles for me---He wants every bit of it given to loving Him!

5. 1 Sam 23: 16-17
And Saul's son Jonathan went to David at Horesh and helped him find strength in God.
"Don't be afraid," he said. "My father Saul will not lay a hand on you. You will be king over Israel, and I will be second to you. Even my father Saul knows this."
 I love the stories of David and Jonathan and their friendship.  Notice that Jonathan didn't come to defend David or to rescue him.  He came, as his friend, to help him find his strength in the Lord.  He encouraged him not to be afraid.  God does that for us in the same way!  He will send other people to us to help us find our strength in Him....to encourage us and to point us in the right direction.   I know of many times in my life when I have been so overwhelmed by a problem, that I "forgot" to turn to Him completely.  And during those times, He sent a Christian brother or sister to encourage me, or even reprimand me, so I'd get back on track with Him.  I pray I will always be ready to do the same for others as he leads!

6. 1 Sam 30:4
So David and his men wept aloud until they had no strength left to weep.
Our strength can be wiped out by our emotions.  We tend to drag others along with us in the process.  But we can never deplete God of His strength.  His strength is not a victim of our emotions!  And yet, the weeping may put me where He wants me---totally dependent on Him.   There are times when weeping in sorrow and pleading with Him for help becomes a cleansing time.  Then He can fill that void up with His strength,

7. Psalm 29:11
The LORD gives strength to his people; the LORD blesses his people with peace.

God does give us strength---we don't have to look for it anywhere else.  I don't need credit cards to protect me from not having money when I need it.  I don't need alcohol to help me face the day.  And not only does He give me strength---He blesses me with peace.  I don't even "have" to worry any more!

I will provide a few more verses for you to apply in your own life.  I let Him lead me to which verses to include, so know they are pertinent, and pray He will help you see where they apply to you!

 Psalm 28:7-8
The LORD is my strength and my shield;
my heart trusts in him, and I am helped.
My heart leaps for joy and I will give thanks to him in song.
The LORD is the strength of his people,
a fortress of salvation for his anointed one.

Psalm 22:19
But you, O LORD, be not far off;
O my Strength, come quickly to help me
Psalm 18:32, 39
It is God who arms me with strength
and makes my way perfect.
You armed me with strength for battle;
you made my adversaries bow at my feet.

 Sam 2 :9-10
He will guard the feet of his saints,
but the wicked will be silenced in darkness.
"It is not by strength that one prevails;
those who oppose the LORD will be shattered.
He will thunder against them from heaven;
the LORD will judge the ends of the earth.
"He will give strength to his king and
exalt the horn of his anointed."

Psalm 18:1-3
For the director of music.
Of David the servant of the LORD.
He sang to the LORD the words of this song
when the LORD delivered him from the hand
of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul.
He said: I love you, O LORD, my strength.
The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer;
my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge.
He is my shield and the horn of my salvation,
my stronghold.
I call to the LORD, who is worthy of praise,
and I am saved from my enemies.
Psalm 46: 1-3
 God is our refuge and strength,
an ever-present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear,
though the earth give way
and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
though its waters roar and foam
and the mountains quake with their surging.

1 Chr 29:11
Yours, O LORD, is the greatness
and the power and the glory
and the majesty and the splendor,
for everything in heaven and earth is yours.
Yours, O LORD, is the kingdom;
you are exalted as head over all.
Wealth and honor come from you;
you are the ruler of all things
. In your hands are strength and power
to exalt and give strength to all.
Now, our God, we give you thanks,
and praise your glorious name.
