DESIRES - DREAMS

& PASSIONS

Somewhere within ourselves we must define who the real "me" is, and what we truly desire. We have to learn to brush away all the fluff and get down to the nitty gritty. Somewhere in there, is what makes us who we truly are.

In order to do this we have to become aware of any desire that is masquerading as the real thing. These are the things that lusts come from. For an example, a real desire for love and affection may be hidden by a "false desire" for an inappropriate relationship  or by a sexual addiction.

There will always be a problem if we don't own and seek our real desires with pure motives.

James 4:2-3

You want something but don’t get it. You kill and covet, but you cannot have what you want. You quarrel and fight. You do not have, because you do not ask God.  When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.

We must actively seek our desires from God. Otherwise, they become confused with desires for things we do not really need. God is interested in our desires - He made them. He put the dreams in our hearts.

Psalms 21: 2-3

You have granted him the desire of his heart

and have not withheld the request of his lips.

You welcomed him with rich blessings

and placed a crown of pure gold on his head.

Psalms 37:4

 Delight yourself in the LORD

and he will give you the desires of your heart

Ps 145:19

 He fulfills the desires of those who fear him;

he hears their cry and saves them.

To know what to ask for, we have to be in touch with who we really are and what our real motives are. We must choose to take an active role in seeking our desires:

Phil 2:12-13

Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose.

Ecc 11:9

Be happy, young man, while you are young,

and let your heart give you joy in the days of your youth.

Follow the ways of your heart

and whatever your eyes see,

but know that for all these things

God will bring you to judgment.

Matt 7:7-11

"Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.

"Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!

We must own our desires and pursue them to find fulfillment in life.

Prov 13:19

A longing fulfilled is sweet to the soul,

but fools detest turning from evil.

As we start off a new year, I challenge us all to dig a little deeper into our own hearts. Be ruthless about sorting out our true motives, In our search for God's will in our life, we must find the dream He has placed within us. And when we find it, the passion will be rekindled, and we will know without a doubt where He is leading us.

Are we pursuing desires that our heavenly father, wise Parent, is not interested in giving us? Have we experienced the fulfillment of a God-given desire? Can we recall how we felt about it? We must make our desires, dreams and goals a focus of our prayers, asking God to refine our ideas and redirect us whenever necessary.
