We as Christians are called to be the lights in the world - how do we do it, and why? Light Bearers "You're here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We're going public with this, as public as a city on a hill! If I make you light-bearers, you don't think I'm going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I'm putting you on a light stand. Now that I've put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand - shine! Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you'll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven." This is The Message translation of Matt 5:14-16. These are the words of Jesus, and if we read them as if He were speaking directly to us, Would we be able to face Him? Are we being the light-bearers He is talking about? Are we out in open, whether we want to be or not? Are we shining? Are we open books to others? Do others see us and then become prompted to open up to God? Do they see our generous Father through us? Or: Would we hide our head in shame? Are we rather, darkness bearers? Are we hiding, saying God doesn't want us to be obnoxious? Are we dull? Do we close ourselves off to others? Do we cause people to think God is too far from them? Do others see a stingy God through us? This short passage has a huge message for us that want to be His ministers. If we are not willing to be what He asks, then we are not only disobeying Him, but we are causing eternal damage to His kingdom. I challenge you today to take a close look at your life....and answer the questions honestly. May God reveal to you the areas you may not be obedient in, and grant you the strength to change. We cannot afford to ignore His leading! Our corner of the world would have no light to light the way if we chose to hide it.
