John's Rocket Fleet

All images (c)1999-2020 John Powell, unless otherwise noted.

Three of my larger rockets. From left: LOC/Precision Legacy (38mm dia. x 50", LOC Magnum (5.5" dia x 82"), Madcow PAC-3 (4" dia x 72")

I have quite a few model rockets and a number of mid to high power rockets. Rockets below are built unless otherwise noted.

Notable model rockets:

- Other brands from which I have at least one rocket include Quest, Holverson Designs (likely out of business, but got big enough that Hobby Lobby carried them) and Custom Rockets.

Scratch built rockets I've made include the green tubular fin rocket on my rocket pictures page.

Mid-power rockets:

My first mid-power rocket was a LOC/Precision Lil' Nuke. It's pictured on my main rocket page.

I also have a few other LOC/Precision and Aerotech rockets, including the brand-new LOC/Precision 1.9" Photon (currently on order). LOC just came out with a 1.9" series of kits, but no parts appear to be available yet. Only Aerotech seems to also make 1.9" rockets. I've flown a LOC/Precision Legacy (~50" long, 38mm diameter) on a D12. Definitely straight up and back down. I also have a Cosmodrome Rocketry Black Brant II kit that I purchased to build for NARAM 42. Unfortunately I was unable to attend, and didn't build the rocket yet. I also have an ALARM (Air Launched Anti Radar Missile)-prototype configuration scale kit from The Launch Pad which I haven't built. It is the only mid-power rocket I have with a balsa nosecone (and tailcone.) -The only Estes mid-power rocket I have is a Pro Series II Nike Smoke (2.6" diameter.) I also have an Apogee Aspire, which is a minimum diameter 29mm rocket capable of mach-busting and 1 mile plus high flights. I have an electronics bay for it as well. Technically, my Vaughn Brothers A.S.P. qualifies as mid-power as well, since it can fly on E and F motors.

As far as scratch built mid-power rockets, I have an upscaled (3" tube) version of the Estes Meteor and a purple tube fin rocket built by Tom Aspenwall. It flies very well on G77R motors. I also have a 2.6" diameter one in progress, which is designed to fly on D-H motors.

High power rockets:

I have a LOC/Precision Graduator that I used for my level 1 flight, a built but unpainted LOC/Precision Magnum, a MadCow Rocketry 4" PAC-3 (Patriot Advanced Configuration 3), two LOC/Precision HI-Tech EZI-45 (one built, one not) and a LOC/Precision Big Nuke (unbuilt).

The only scratch-built high power rocket I have is my Bluebird, which is pictured on the main rocket page. I also have the in progress 2.6" rocket mentioned above in mid-power, which will be H motor capable.
