Rained On
Gregory C. Haitz
Begin with a simple town-
A house, a room, a Bible study,
Coffee, prayer.
Now turn the shade down,
it must be night.
Place some figures inside-
Medium age, college age.
Give them a theme.
The theme must be about God.
Experiencing, knowing, doing.
This is the stage.
Now place the people inside.
Paint a young man-
Tall, sure, but not too sure.
Now place a hole in his heart.
It must be small.
A female is in the room.
Start with her hair-
Long, brown, red, both.
Her appearance must be pleasing.
She loves God...
...and notice the young man
as he comes to life:
Curious, fascinated,
because of this girl of God's
He's carving out his approach-
Time is passing,
their friendship growing,
carried by a smooth rhythm...
Then have the shade flap up
and reality catch them frozen in that pose.
He acted too sudden?
Now the rain is coming,
blowing in the window
till they are slowly covered.
