Outlook (Swansea)
Outlook was launched on the 27th of February
1997. Its intention being to enhance the lives of the visually
impaired, by encouraging and organising social outtings, and also
to provide advice, support, and information, not only to the
visually impaired, but also to their families. friends as well as
interested members of the public.
To celebrate our launch and to arouse local
interest we held a 12 hour Pool-a-thon, at a Public house this
was played by visually impaired members, as well as the general
public. We invited the residents from nursing homes as well as
elderly people from local sheltered housing, tea, coffee and a
good old fashioned sing-a-long started the day. The evening was
quite different, a prize quiz and a karaoke was enjoyed by
everyone. Such was the success of the day that not only did the
local newspaper, radio and television attend but we also managed
to raise over £400 for a local children's charity V.I.C.T.A (
Visually Impaired Children Taking Action). Since then Outlook has had many outings, which
have included dances, cabaret, quizzes, day trips, disco's,
tenpin bowling, fishing and country walks. membership is open to
