Hi, I'm Luther from New York!

Luther is a blue doberman, approximately 8 years old who I adopted last week from Animal Haven, a no kill shelter in Flushing, NY. Luther was found wandering at the age of one and brought to the shelter, shortly thereafter he was adopted and lived in an apartment in the Bronx for about 2 years. He and his owner moved to South Carolina, where Luther apparently chased "rattle snakes" and because he was bitten several times, the owner returned him to Animal Haven. Luther had been there for five years waiting for someone to take him home. His wish was finally answered and he is making his way in our home with Myles, Milly, and Cleo. Below see pics of Luther and look for updates. Luther has been put on the Natural Raw food diet, is getting coat treatments, since he is almost completely bald, and is getting spoiled rotten, as any good doberman should!!

We're finally home, outside playing with his new brother and sisters

She's fixin' dinner, see how patient I am?

See my new sister? Isn't she so pretty? She loves me too!

Do you think he hears me? Hey, Luther, wanna play?

Update: Unfortunatley, things did not go as we planned, and a few weeks after Luther was at our home, and after having surgery to remove a very large mass from his mouth, and being placed on thyroid medication, he became aggressive with all the other animals at my home. I have three other rescues, and a cat who lives inside. After great effort to treat the aggression with my vet and many rescue peopleover the course of the next month and a half, it was felt that Luther was not going to make the adjustment to living in a family atmosphere after his years being caged. With heartfelt sadness, and much pain, Luther was put down. This is a very sad ending to a very sad life. NO animal should ever be subjected to living this way, and hopefully with continued efforts in rescue and owner awareness and education, we can all hope this type of life will become of thing of the past. Although the first step is to stop the breeding of so many puppies, also important is making your pet a lifelong committment and taking responsibility for it. I know that Luther is now running free at the Rainbow Bridge and we will meet again one day. He was loved.
