To me Rainbow was not just a kids tv show, of course this was the 70's and everything was about sex, even Rainbow!
Think back to the characters of the show...they were social misfits and sexual deviants! Remeber their names? There was Geoffery, Bungle, Zippy, George and not forgetting Rod, Jane and Freddy, all these people should be hunted down and hung for their crimes to children's sanity.
Firstly there was Geoffery. He was a human, in his late 30s, one of the few humans in the show, and his vast height and trendy mop-top hair cut denoted that he was indeed the leader. He was their leader and made up strange games for them to play and regularly showed them videos about stange cycadellic shapes and rainbows appearing from paint pots, he also had this obsession of peering through windows, didnt matter what shape, round, square or triangle, he would activley encourage the others to perv through these windows...sicko.
Next there was Bungle, he was Geoffery's second in command and was somekind of big brown bear. This bear always had something to say for himself and was always excited about something, which was worrying...imagine if one day he got angry, he could have killed them all, as he was much bigger than all of them put together. Come to think of it there is nothing I'd like more than to see Bungle weilding a chainsaw, slashing limbs. Whenever Geoffery left the room Bungle would intantly take charge, but was usually challenged by Zippy, but come on Zippy was no match for a six foot bear!
Zippy was my favourite by a mile...I still have no idea what the hell he was supposed to be, but thinking back he was obviosly a kind of gimp, this I deduce from the large zip he had across his mouth. I would watch everyday just to see if he would annoy the others enough for him to have his mouth zipped! It was either Geoffery or Bungle who zipped his mouth when Zippy started spouting out shite, he would then insesantly mumble. It wouldn't surprise me if after the show they did this for fun and then did horrible sexually motivated things to him to see just how loud he could actually mumble!
George was never my favorite character...he was a goody-goody and always told on Zippy when he did something wrong, they always sat next to each other behind that big table, what went on beneath that table I do not want to know, but it must have been nice as they never moved from that one spot for years. Now George was a hippo, but get this, a pink hippo! He also spoke with a soft, camp voice and in my opinion he was as gay as the day is long...not that I have anything against homosexuals, just that I believe God created Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve...or George in this case, not that I believe in God either, or gays, but thats another story. Anyway George was a spoilsport and I longed for the day when someone would sew a zip to his big mouth, except the zip would have a lock and I would have the key, but I'd never use it!
Last up are the infamous Rod, Jane and Freddy. Now these three regularly came by to play some songs and dance about the place. Rod was an old guy, about 40ish and I think him and Geoffery were lovers, I have no proof, but you could tell by the way they smiled at each other they were more then just good friends. Jane and Freddy were about the same age, late 20s and these two were definaly at it with each other, in fact had I been 21 back in the 1970s I would have certainly persued Jane, she was a typical randy looking 70s woman, with long blonde hair and a centre parting...ohhhhh Jane! Anyway they were always entertaining the others by banging on their instruments and such like...in fact in one episode they had some drums they were playing outside the house, they then came in the house and asked "did you hear us banging? Do you want to bang along with us?" ...Oh yes please Jane!
