Maite in Finland

As you propably already know, the Kellys had their first "big concert" in Finland on 16th of April 1998. The Kellys have been to Finland before, a couple of years ago they were playing for free in the streets in Helsinkin and Vaasa. But now to the concert I was talking about… It started few minutes before seven o’clock in the evening and from the first seconds till the last moments Maite was happily dancing and jumping around the stage. At first I just couldn’t believe my eyes, I was like "Wow, how can she possibly do that?!" but then I stopped wondering and enjoyed the music. She looked very beautiful and she was full of energy, she really was the star of the show though all the others were great too. She was dancing around so much that after a couple of songs the sleeve of her dress ripped, but I don’t know if she even noticed it. She also took her shoes off and let her hair down during the concert.

Maite had even learned some Finnish, after the song Red shoes, she took a paper and read from it "Onko teillä hauskaa?" That’s finnish and means "Do you have fun?" Everybody who understood that was screaming. She tried to read something else from the paper, but then she threw it away and said "Forget it!" Then she said "It’s nice to be here. My father, by the way he is Irish, used to say I’m a vikinggirl. Finland is kinda home to us and I’m proud to be here. The next song is I wish I were a swallow and it’s about missing, every kind of missing, like I sometimes miss Finland." She was dancing and jumping and sitting and lying on the stage and then she also touched our hands. After a couple of songs Paddy said "Do you like my sister, the viking girl, yeah?!... She’s also a great cook, she makes excellent food.

A friend of mine gave lots of Finnish chocolate to Maite during the concert. Maite took the package from her, opened it and look very surprised. I’ve got a photo of her, holding the chocolate, looking to the camera whith her mouth wide open. My friend gave the photo to me few days after the concert, she was happy because of the photo and that Maite took her present.

Maite sang just two of her song in the concert, Roses of red and I wish I were a swallow, because the concert was such a short one. Like all of you propably know, the concert had a very sad ending and Maite was the one who came to the stage after the break and told us about it. She had changed her clothes and didn’t look very happy. Some people were screaming so she waited that there were quiet again. Then she said: "Sorry, I have a bad news to you. We are really sorry, but we have to stop the show, cause my brother Paddy just fainted at the backstage. We’re sorry but we can’t continue. But we’re coming back here as soon as we can and remember to keep your tickets cause with them you can come to our new concert for free." Then she said again that they were sorry and left the stage.

I want to dedicate this page to my frind, whom Maite made happy, though Maite isn’t her fave Kelly (I wish she’d been, it’d have saved my friend from lots of problems and pain). I don’t know if she wants her name published on this page, so I won’t put her name here, maybe some of you regocnice her. Anyway I just want to say that she’s one of my dearest friends and I really care about her.
